Rolex Oyster Perpetual 5500 from 1973
Saw that craft and tailored was selling a Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref 5500 from 1973, but from looking up the ref number the ref #5500 corresponds to the Air King. Was this a time period where Rolex did not put Air-King on the dial?

Dunno about that but the coronet looks wonky and it's got an extravagantly engraved 1002 caseback to keep things interesting.
I do like the looks of that 1675/8 they've got, but not the price! |

I've seen 5500's called "Explorer" and "Metropolitan" (and some "Everest" 5504's even) but this plain Oyster Perpetual is a new one to me.

I have no reason to doubt craft and tailored, could this be dial be because it was ordered by a company for an employee's 25th year?

It is probably a new dial fitted to the case without regard to it's originality.
It's a shame because a 5500 Explorer original is a sought after piece, and Air-Kings have history.
