Info On Vintage 1500

Hello all, I have posted before about this watch and had some mixed comments. I am looking for a person who is extremely experienced and knows 100% about this watch. I've had the watch opened when I first received it by a certified Rolex watchmaker who assured me the movement was authentic as well as the other parts. I'm not debating if the parts are 100% Rolex I'm wondering if anyone has seen a 70's 1500 with yellow gold indices but white gold or steel bezel. I will post pictures of the watch.

There may be no doubt that the watch has authentic Rolex parts, the dial is likely from a two tone or all gold 1500 OR crown and bezel were swapped to remove the two tone aspect of the watch

I guess this is the third thread you've started to ask this same question, and I'm afraid you're probably not going to have anyone tell you with certainty that your watch is all original. It would certainly be unusual to have that dial with a SS bezel and crown. If you like the watch, I would suggest just enjoying it. It's an entry level piece anyway, so there won't be a huge hit in value if it's not completely original.

In the middle east in the 70s you could get a dial with gold indices and gold hands for your SS watch. But you at least need papers showing that it was sold in the middle east when trying to convince someone that it was sold like that.

Why not send it to an RSC for a repair estimate. If it's not original, they will tell you so - along with what parts must be changed before they will work on it.

99% they will try to sell you a new dial and hands or a new bezel and crown.

You can send to the nearest rsc directly, or have a local AD send it in.

99.9% of the time, gold indices and hands denote a 2-tone configuration. There are a few very rare exceptions but without original documentation then its just another modified 2-tone watch.

Service dial and hands are around $400 usd.

But it's hard to say what rsc will do. If they look up your serial number and it was a two tone, they may insist on reverting it to that.

A new gold bezel and crown are likely more expensive than a dial.

It may not be original, but the combination, as it currently is, makes for a very attractive piece. Do you not like the current look or do you not like that it may not be all original? I'd wear that thing all day long and enjoy it. :)

This ^^ Although if you or an independent watchmaker could source a gold crown it would provide a finishing touch. BTW, for a 70's vintage watch the case looks to be in superb condition. Congratulations.

When it gets to RSC you will likely be told the dial isn’t original to that watch and must be changed at your expense - plus they will want to keep the one you have on it now.

There is a 1% chance someone replaced the original crown & bezel but left the dial alone - but I wouldn’t count on it.

If you like it, then maybe leave well enough alone; wait until time for a service and address it then.
