Strange.....

So, it's all of 1 degree C out this morning, and I pull into the parking lot at work and get out of my car. In rolls one of my cow-orkers in his Miata convertible - with the top down.

Okay, I get the fun of having a rag top, but what is it with these people who insist on driving them with the tops down in what I can only describe as "inappropriate" weather? Hey, I have the heat on in the car and the heated steering wheel turned on in weather like this, and he's driving around with his top down?

We pop-toppers are a different breed, Al. If the sun is shining (or even if it's not raining), we like to feel the wind in our face, the frostbite on our nose and ears, and the tears streaming down and freezing on our cheeks. It's a macho thing.

I gotta agree with Ed here. If the sun is shining and it's above 0C, I say drop the top. That's why you get heated seats as an option (which I think has to be one of the greatest inventions for our climate - I wish VW offered heated steering wheels as well!).

Okay, but personally I think you guys are nuts! Also, it kinda looks rediculous to be driving in a parka with the top down, dontcha think?

Re: heated seats - wasn't that cold so I didn't need them this morning. The heated steering wheel is one of the best car inventions ever (non safety of course). It's almost as nice as the auto-dimming rear mirror.......sweet!

I had a friend (note had) who works for Mazda Canada on the senior exec team. About 13 years ago I told him I had a great idea for Mazdas for the Canadian (or northern) climate. A heated steering wheel. Simple to do, with a few wires and a switch.

He said the idea was complete nonsense and no one would see the practicality of that.

Then BMW put it on as an option about 5 or 6 years later. ##$^&@&#*@^~!
