Winter Olympics

So, is everyone pumped about the upcoming winter Olympics? I have to say in my part of the world, there is so little hype about these Olympics is kinda scary. Normally all the channels are in full swing advertising the Games, but it is strangely silent this time around. Even the American channels aren't talking their athletes up as much as they usually do.........(ouch!).

I will be glued to the television. I love watching the Olympics, and I truly wish our Canadian athletes well in these games. Going in we have had some really good international performances, so I am hoping for a great games for us.

My Name is John, and I'm an Olympic junky.

I can't wait for them to start. I love almost all the sports (except for curling). I'm really looking forward to the hockey and the skiing. But other sports like bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, biathalon... I love them all!

Strangely though, I haven't purchased any official Olympic gear this year, yet. The HBC stuff is more functional than the Roots stuff of days gone by, but I find it rather pricey!

I actually thought that stuff was priced quite reasonably compared to my feeling for the Roots attire of the past. I can't say that I have looked at the Roots stuff closely, though. I am of the opinion that if you didn't earn the attire, you should not have it (exceptions being gifts from someone who did earn it, I guess). There at least should be some difference between the items available at the store, and those that the Games participants get.......as someone who is/was trying very hard to make on Olympic team, I wouldn't feel right wearing something I didn't earn. It's probably a different thing for the general public.

If I recall correctly, I think Roots held back one garment from the sale to the public in each of the Games they made the clothes for. I think it might have been the podium shirts that the athletes were given to wear when they won a medal, but I'm not sure of that........

My coach gave my wife one of her shirts from the 2000 Games in Sydney....it was in recognition of all my wife's help in my shooting career.

I've heard hardly any hype about the Olympics.

Not that I would be glued to the T&V anyway. I'll probably watch highlights after the 11:00 PM news. When they pre-empt Letterman or Leno (depending on what network they're on).

Nice momento Avalon.
I had a friend visit southern Italy recently. She said the same thing, Very Little Hype about the Olympics. And that was from the country hosting the event.
Go Canada Go. ( at least in Hockey, double Gold anyone?)

I was given a Salt Lake team sweatshirt that I have yet to wear (just don't like the design) and as far as the other stuff goes, I usually get a ball-cap, to support the team. I believe a portion of every sale goes to support the team, so I do my part. But this year... nah... Maybe I have enough stuff with Canada on it.

NBC is broadcasting the Winter Olympics. Maybe this will be their chance to earn some market share when compared to their usual pathetic lineup.

We're seeing some preparatory spots here in the Midwest and I'm sure it will increase as we get closer to Feb. 10.

I'm looking forward to the games. I just hope the network doesn't keep resending the same highlights over and over. Also, as I recall from previous broadcasts the only award ceremonies shown were the ones where American's won gold medals. I don't think this is nationalistic as much as sophomoric.

If you have sat TV, watch the CBC's coverage. Very balanced!

Watch in Hi Def.
Truly amazing video.
When I got my HiDef set, it was during the summer Olympics of 2004. The first event I saw was the womens 100m. I could literally watch one racers shoe laces come untied during the race.

Over in Oz, we've got Steven Bradbury advertising the Olympics.

I love the Olympics, some of the best sports on T.V. Especially HOCKEY! No contracts, no salary disputes, no players having fallouts with managers and coaches. Just athletes playing cause they love what they are doing!
