Exactly!!

Well worth the money I paid for mine and I find that true for most things I pay a little extra for.

I've had Prince Jorge Markowski, Churchs, Cheaney and other Made in England but so far the best Chelsea boots in terms of fit and comfort are RM William's. Best looking are from England. Best comfort Strelyans.

Us Kiwis have a grudging respect for this Ozzie booktmakers.

It's just all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconvenience we have to deal with.

They arrived yesterday! I so love them.

Also found the matching belt on the Interwebs and that will arrive shortly.
So excited to finally own a pair of R.M. Williams.

Also recently bought a pair of Allen Edmonds Alpine lace to toe which I am wearing today. Super pleased with this pair as well.

Where did you order from? Ben Silver? About to call to confirm that they still stock the comfort craftsman.

As far as Allen Edmonds, I feel like I have been watching a slow motion plane crash with that company over the last 3-4 years.

I have 8 pairs but nearly everyone was a pair bought at least five years ago. The last few times I have gone to my local store to find a specific need, I was disappointed in their lack of quality control. The more recent pairs have been moved on as the leather seems to be a much lower quality as of late.

Yesterday, in fact, I went to look at the Liverpool chelsea in comparison to the RM williams and was appalled. The display had loose threads all over the gore seam. The first pair in my size had a welt that looked like it was chewed by a dog. The second looked like the upper had a roll or buckle on the inside edge. A few weeks earlier looking at the Carlylse and tried a pair with leather frighteningly mismatched.

Damn sad as I love buying American but the recent examples of production are two or three notches below my older pieces.

I got my boots in person at R.M. Williams in NYC. Shockingly, they were 50% off!
I got the belt online in the UK. Tough to find that matching belt in my size anywhere.

I just placed an order at bootsonline.com. They had a deal at $346 for the Comfort Craftsman and matching belt. Now to see how much in duties I get hit for.

Mark makes a great point with regards to Crockett and Jones. They have two lines of footwear being Benchmade and Handgrade with Handgrade being the better and most expensive. They are considered to still be middle tier like Alden when it comes to footwear but still better than Alden. I didn't mention them but they really make some nice shoes and boots. Typically most of their footwear is a bit more on the dressy or casual dress side but their Snowdon is closer to what your looking for I think.

Of all of the boots that I have I have more Crockett and Jones boots than I do of any others with exception of Edward Green. Edward Green just happens to be my favorite. It was when I got a pair of Crockett and Jones boots that I realized how good boots and shoes could really be. My prior experience were with Allen Edmonds, Alden, Redwing and such. Snowdons are not one of their boots in their Handgrade line but it's still a real good boot. The boots in their Handgrade line aren't quite the style it seems your interested in.

In the past there have been some Group Made To Orders arranged for on StyleForum for Snowdons in Zug which is the heartiest leather I know of. It's really the most water repellant leather you can get.

Anyway part of the reason I didn't mention them was because I thought you were gravitating more towards Indy and Viberg boots.
Ha...totally inline with you here.

I have 8 pairs of boots - 4 pairs of Alden, 3 in Shell (one Indy, one cap toe in cigar shell, and medallion Brixton x Epaulet in Colour 8), and an Indy 403(one of my favourites), and 4 pairs of Viberg, 2 service boots in Shell(Bourbon and Mahogany) , one servce boot in horsebutt and a Country Derby boot in waxed flesh (absolute Tanks!) - I'd sleep with the darn things on if I could.

Treat them well, keep em clean and in some cedar shoe trees, and they'll last longer than most of us here.

Every time I wear the Viberg boot, I feel like nothing could feel better on my feet, then I wear my Alden's, and think the same thing, until I put the Vibergs back on, rinse and repeat - for me, it's just these two brands that work, none of the others have punched my clock, to stiff, too big a toe box (the famous "clown shoe", or lack of support in the heel and arches).

Really, really like the C&J boots, but they're just not my style, although when I see one that does, I'll most likely give it a try.

Little update. Really like the 6 eye Alden Shell Chukka.
Honestly I was not impressed with Alden Loafer 986's on the Van last. Just never bonded with them and have only worn them a handful of times. So I somewhat avoided trying another pair of Aldens.

The boots on the other hand I am really digging. They are on the Plaza last and it suits me much more both for fit and style. Out of the three pairs of boots I recently purchased I like these the best. Super comfortable and love the 6 eye style. Perfect dressed up or down. Will probably order another pair in black.

Wearing my -100 Below Sorels today blowing snow. I've had them for 20 years, and they are very warm, though only to about -50 degrees F, not -100.
