Dial Identification Challenge
Hi guys,
New blood here. Inherited a beautiful 18K gold case Rolex but the dial is in very poor condition. Movement is being serviced at the moment, but can any of the experts here help me find the appropriate model so I can source a new dial? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! |

That dial is badly refinished, so it's hard to know what it originally looked like. It would be best to get the reference number off of the case.

Those early to mid-1950s dials are very hard to come by. Most likely your watch is a 6534?
Most of them have been repainted like yours as it was a common procedure back in the day. Some redials were done very well and others, like yours were very poor. Please let us know the model of the watch, it should either be stamped on the outside of the case back or between the lugs of the case. Worst case scenario is that you can send your dial off to be repainted again and it would come back looking brand new.

Can you take the dial out of the plastic and shoot a clear picture of the back?
If you pay a visit to the watchmaker doing your movement service, get some pictures of the inside of the caseback, and pictures of the midcase between the lugs on both the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock sides. Possible to find an original dial but you may need to refinish the existing one. Your watchmaker may also have contacts inside the industry to make suggestions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
