So well hidden that I could not find it...

My wife asked me to hide her pouch with ALL her jewelries before we travel.

I hide it a few times and finally found a spot that I was satisfied with.

After 3 weeks, I could not recall where I have kept it. I am in the dog house now. The missus is devastated because she acquired them to commemorate special occasions like work promotion and personal achievements. I am feeling very bad about the situation.

I am now doubting my own memory which is very unhealthy.
1) was it stolen?
2) was it accidentally thrown away?
3) did I even kept it away?
4) was it even handed over to me by the missus?

I’ve had this happen. Now whenever I hide something before a vacation I take a picture of the hidden location. Most of the time I don’t even need to reference the picture now. Just the act of taking the picture helps me to remember better than just hiding it alone.

Good luck.

I have lost a couple of weeks 'old' Tag Heuer from a burglary. I was absolutely gutted as it was a graduation present from my parents. That was 2 decades ago. Little did I know, I still carry the trauma.

I regret hiding it. Now I am really going through serious trauma.

I wouldn’t be allowed to leave the house until a) it was found or b) it was replaced and then some.

How big is your house?

It will always be located in the last place you look. The trick is looking there first.

Just stop thinking about it for a while. You'll probably remember in the succeeding days. It will pop into your mind, perhaps at 3:00 am.

Been there, done it! I now photograph where I hide things. Upload to cloud & delete from phone! Doesn’t help you now though.

I've been known to tear my entire garage apart looking for a missing screw driver. If it was me, I would tear the house apart and would not rest until I found the hidden jewels.
But that's just me. I must have a personality disorder.

Did that once with a favorite roach clip back in the early 1970s. Thankfully, found it in the palm tree in the backyard before we sold the house…

A: Try a metal detector all over the house. Beware the wires!

B:
1) was it stolen? No. There was no sign of a break in, and nothing else is missing. Do you really think it's plausible that a burglar finds ONLY that place which even you can't remember, but finds nothing else in your house?
2) was it accidentally thrown away? No. If you found it, why would you thrown it away?
3) did I even kept it away? Yes. Without it, you would find these on their regular place.
4) was it even handed over to me by the missus? Maybe. But as she don't find these, the answer is most likely a Yes. Anyhow, if these are "lost in action", than not that's the question, who lost them, but the quest is to find them.

Try Plan A

while it's true that it will be in the last place you look, that's mostly because that's when you stop looking.

Great idea, but how precise can it truly get? Inside a modest house, would it be able to even pinpoint the room that it was in?

When we used ours for luggage, it told us it was at the airport...somewhere.

I can scan for unknown airtags. I presume a burglar will scan for airtags while scanning for bluetooth and wifi gadgets to pilfer.

I don’t know how AirTags work but I use Tile. When looking for the item the tile will ring/chime. So you’d be able to hear it in an empty house and probably within 15-20 feet in a busy airport. The other nice feature is the tile itself can ring your phone. That’s very handy if you have the tile but can’t find your phone. I have a tile in both wallets and on all three sets of car keys. Hard to say if I’ve used my phone to find my tiles or my tiles to find my phone more often.
