How sensitive/fragile is Calibre 2121?

Hey guys. Months ago I bought a 5 year-old 15202st that was barely worn and in mint condition. I ended up having to send it for service shortly after as its winding was very rigid, the rotor movement felt very unfluid, and the watch would randomly stop (even on a winder).

Now that it back from service, all is tip top. The boutique guys are saying because of how little is was worn/wound most likely the oil/lubricant dried up.

Does that sound plausible? How durable is the movement? Is it easy/common for it to have problems? My understanding is AP have done small upgrades over the years to make it more Shock proof. What do you guys think?

My 16202 did the same thing and it's a different movement. Got it back after 4 weeks and works just fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes it is possible. And it’s true for every watch ! (Mecanics)
Like any engine it needs oil to work properly and oil will dry if not used…
Therefore it is important to wind a watch once in a while, that goes also for chrono that people actually never use.

Take usual care and you will be fine. Wouldnt do sports, have dropped mine on hard floor during airport checkout and had to go to service. As any other steel RO it is scratch magnet so be careful.

I don’t baby mine, but I don’t abuse it either. Have not had issues with weekly wear for two plus years

That’s good to hear! I usually use my APs for welding, bricklaying and punching rocks and so far no issue

OP : I wouldn't worry about it. Mechanical things from time to time need a service, new lubrication etc. I generally try and stay away from anything with sudden shocks to the movement but a service once in a while is expected

Yesterday while I was wearing it, a guy that was talking made so many good points we got up and gave him a strong standing ovation. Is the clapping dangerous to the movement?
