Set the time every week
Hello there and nice day everyone. Recently bought myself a 116610ln, but I’m not a daily Rolex guy due to some reason. But I do wear it certain days in a week or sometimes 1 day in a week. Is this safe to pull out the crown so often like once a week? Will this damage the watch?

There've been hand-wound Rolexes that needed the crown to be unscrewed every day. Your sub will be fine unless you're just, like, really terrible at screwing in the crown and you keep cross-threading it. As long as it feels like it screwing in smoothly, you're fine.

It's safe, but I suggest buying a watch winder so you won't have to constantly set the time.

I don’t understand what the point of this would be? You will still need to set the time. Why not just let the watch wind down and then wind it up and set the time when needed?

I think that is what he is doing, and was just concerned that doing it so often may be a problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Setting the time 1x/week will not damage it. I don’t think you need a watch winder.

Crown won’t get stuck from disuse
Any mechanical mechanism benefits from all its parts being used.

Cool. That’s a really big relief for me. I got told by someone, setting the time often can cause damage very soon to the crown and also the mechanism inside.

One of the dumbest questions I've seen today/this week/this month.
NO dude no, it's not safe to use your watch. Don't even look at it or it might break. DON'T DO IT!!! |

Just set as needed. Give it a few winds, then set the time and date. But don't set the date between 9 P.M. and 3 A.M. What I do is- I give it 40 winds, pull out the crown two clicks if the time on the watch is between 9 and 3 and adjust the time till the date changes up to after 4am. Only then do I set the date to a day before. Then set again to the correct date and time. This way you can be sure your date changes at 12 midnight and not at 12 noon. Enjoy!

I currently only wear my DJII once every 3 weeks and don’t use a winder so when it comes up in rotation I give it 30-40 turns then set time and date and that’s it and 7 days later it gets put back and winds down so you will be fine but as stated a winder is not needed unless you just don’t want to bother with winding and setting

I understood that, but I also thought that he's leaving the watch at rest with an unscrewed crown, which I would advise against, because dust particles could sneak in.

Yeah, I suppose that could be a concern, as well as moisture. I just didn’t read that in his post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
