Well said.

I happen to agree wholeheartedly.

In fact, I’ve got a thread brewing because of it.

I don't think that's a charitable reading of the thread. This is about the little ironies that arise from our personal quirks. specifically, how even folks who spend time on a Rolex forum can be pinchpennies in other areas of life

Well Janet, if you live in WV, PA, or any state north of there, and bought any Aldi Flour - don’t use it...

The recalled flour was sold in 11 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.

Agree. Some people seem to be offended by everything, even a light hearted thread allowing us to laugh at ourselves.

…… I still sit in a 20 year old recliner that has multiple holes in the leather cover with stuffing protruding. Just can't bring myself to replace it. Wife not impressed.

Although probably the vast majority of people buy Rolexes as status symbol show off watches there are also lots of watches far more expensive that nobody in the public realm has even heard of. So there is almost no status symbol attached to it by most of the pubic and yet people still buy them because they love them. Some save for the grails and others buy on a whim.

So my argument to your initial premise is that most people have a "thing" that they get pleasure out of in their lives, be it family vacations, nice cars, music collections or musical instruments or whatever, and they really have no need to justify it to anyone. Humans are quirky beings.

I wash and reuse Ziplock bags till they are no longer really useable.

My microwave style popcorn is 1/4 cup of popcorn placed into a brown paper lunch bag. Makes it an air popped version w/out the added food chemicals.

Yet I allow my Butler and Maid to use the Rolls when going to Fortnum and Mason for a Hamper.

Only joking, the maid uses the Bentley.

Fair enough. But I'm not offended.

I just didn't see a need to apologize for liking or buying nice things.

I see this thread kind of like a low self esteem (although I'm not accusing anyone of that) feeling that I don't deserve this or that, so as penance I wear sack cloth to atone.

Everyone has X number of dollars, and we all choose to spend them in various ways.

My extravagance is I take care of what I have so I don't have to replace things often.

All threads are fun, most anyways, and I don't take myself seriously, except people hurting other people. Which this thread obviously isn't about.

I'm just stating my opinion on this one. Carry on. Have fun. I'll butt out.
