5711r vs RG YM OF

Thinking about my next acquisition, and want it to be a rose gold sports watch. I don’t really dress up too much and typically am a white metal guy.

Price and availability not withstanding, curious on your opinions on the 5711r vs the yachtmaster RG on OF (126655). I love the thinness and fit-like-a-glove feel of the 5711 as well as that dial, but also love the sportiness and rubber strap of the YM paired w the matte black ceramic bezel. Additionally, was wondering how subtle or not so subtle the all RG bracelet is of the 5711.

This would be worn in a rotation, not as a daily. Examples of some in my collection are 5712a (probably my favorite ever), 5167a, and several SS Rolex (eg subC, BLNR, white DaytonaC).

If anyone owns both or was deciding between these two, would especially love to hear from you.

Thx in advance.

If the 5712 is your fave then you have to go with this beauty, which is the only reason I don't have a 5712 as one Naut is enough and these are my top two. Go for the classy silky beauty, you have enough sports with the Rolexes.

I’d do that 11 or consider the new choco Dial Daytona on OF or full rg

Have you considered the 5164R? Wonderful reference and a cut above the Rolex in my opinion.

Ahh, that pic- I’ve stared at it many times — really gorgeous shot, Neil. How do you think it wears with casual attire, say jeans and a polo? I’m not one to dress up and wouldn’t want this beauty sitting in a safe most of the time.

I don’t do too much traveling across time zones and when I do, I grab by BLNR so
I can do everything with it without taking it off. Plus, I prefer the size/thinness of the 5711 (and 5167) to the 5164. Nearly identical price point and rubber+RG, so I appreciate the suggestion.

Thx... if I was to get a PM Daytona I think it would be the WG OF, but honestly one Daytona is enough for me.

Appreciate the opinions, gents, keep ‘em coming!

Absolutely love my YM.

To me, it’s an easy call. The Patek is stunning. For sure. But the combination of the matte black, timing bezel and strong lume is a great draw.

For me the 5711/1R. Patek rose gold is stunning. You have to see one in the metal yourself.

Totally agree. I finally got to see Patek RG in person on the 5167r, and it is far and away my favorite shade of RG I've seen.
And this is coming from a huge Rolex everose gold fan.......so much so that I finally pulled the trigger on the RG Daytona on OF about a week ago. I have tried on the YM on OF as well, and really like it a lot, but comparing it to the 5711r is apples and oranges, IMHO.

The 5711r is just amazing.

I'm not a full PM watch kind of guy (i.e.-- I don't think I can do a PM watch with bracelet, as opposed to doing them with OF or leather straps), but the one watch that would make me reconsider is the 5711r.

You really can't go wrong with 5711r… it's great. Better than A, in my humble opinion.

Have you thought about replacing the 67a for a 67r?

Soon to be an owner of 5711/1R and I can tell in advance it's going to be one of my favourites. My current favourite is the 5980/1R but I can find the 250 grams to be a bit too much at times. I think for weight (& distribution across wrist) the 5711/1R will be the winner.

For a 5164R vs RG YM OF I find that YM sits better on the wrist. The 5164R is super understated even as an RG watch.

I use my YM OF once in a blue moon as the choice between a 5980 and 5164R normally thumps the YM.

I wear mine casually most days, jeans and a tee, and it is a lot more subtle than my YG Rolexes altho it still has that pizzaz. I don't think anyone has ever noticed it, altho I see Ellen has just bought one recently on her talk show so maybe that changes.

If It's constantly on day-in-day-out, it becomes a pain in the arse. I had a 116688 (also around 250 grams) on for 14 days straight. I was contemplating wearing it on my right wrist for a period of time. Couldnt wait to get it off after having it on daily.

I honestly think the 11R will be such a suitable fix it could be for the "longer" business / vacay trips I take.

Mine weighs around 175-80 so in between Rolex SS and YG, very nice balance of comfort and luxury.

Yes I looked up the weight for it and I think it strikes a good balance for SS vs RG. Maybe at around 200 grams I would have been happier, but we cant have it all (5740 is in the 200 grams weightclass). The 5980 is such a brilliant watch but if you have it on constantly it becomes a tad bit unbearable.

Excellent. When not at work dressed like a slob (well, khakis and scrub tops), I’m in jeans and t shirt or gym clothes.

Probably the same way I got the 12 and 67...

Exactly the things that draws me to the RGYMOF! Also sometimes I think it’s a better stepping stone to full colored PM (for me).

I have 3/4 links off so it probably goes up to 190-200 if you have 7.75-8 inch wrists.

Is adding a 5167R too repetitive with the 5167A? Personally, I think it's the closest in terms of styling to the RG YM OF.

Unless you're getting your PPs from an AD at MSRP, for the going rate for a 5711R (seem to be hovering right around $100k) you could trade your 5167A towards a 5711A and 5167R and come out even...

My gut tells me 5167r and a would be too repetitive but I agree it is a more similar comparison w the YM.

I would be getting the 5711r from an AD at MSRP, ~51k US. Not really interested in a 5711a in blue since I have the 12, but I’ve considered it in white. Wildcard piece I am also considering is an ALS up/down in RG. Priced similar to YM than 5711r. Just not sure if too dressy. It’s color scheme is a bit quirky lending it perhaps to more casual attire I think. But it’s no 57xx.

Own the 5711R and have tried on the YM - honestly, imho they are apples and zucchini - the PP is light years more refined and detailed. No comparison, PP hands down.

Fair enough. And I'm personally with you; were I offered a 5711 I'd prefer the white dial, too.

Another option to consider, and again a bit of a wildcard: a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms in rose gold on a strap. Closer to Patek level in terms of fit and finish, but barely more than the Rolex in terms of price.
