Possible 5170j Purchase

I'm new to Patek and looking to pickup a preowned manual wind chronograph. Davidsw (who I've have had great dealings with) has one for sale at a good price. It looks good to me, anyone have any thoughts on it?

Thanks for the help.

I can’t comment on this particular watch.

The seller, however, is fine...

What I think is this : if the price of the watch is that low “bargain price” you better keep the watch for the next generation

It's a beautiful watch. But as with most 5170s, resale isn't great and the J version seems to be particularly unpopular ( I can still find some NOS languishing in AD displays ). So buy only if you plan to keep it.

Thanks for all the feedback. I do really like the 5170, but I think I would prefer a 5070. Davidsw also has a yellow gold Daytona with Paul Newman dial in an unworn condition, but I'm not sure I'd like a gold bracelet.

Good looker. Performed poorly at auction recently (high 30s iirc). I slightly prefer the 5170G.

It's a beautiful watch. I am personally a fan of yellow gold on strap and this is a decent watch.

Only hesitation is Patek really made too many of these and they sat and continue to sit at ADs throughout the world. Personally I might pick up a 1815 Lange Chronograph before one of these.
