Need Help With a Decision 116710LN

Guys, ive been saving for the 116710LN for 4 years, and im ready to buy. Im absolutely destroyed that they stopped making the Rolex model I have always wanted. Now I need to save another 1000 bucks just to hit my dream.

1. Should I hold off and wait it out? If so, how long will it take for this madness in price to calm down?

2. Or just pay the premium to hold my dream watch?

Please talk me off the edge!

Respectfully,

Nick

There is a recession around the corner. Prices ought to drop.

Buy one with out box or papers pre owned. You’ll save a lot. And if you plan on keeping it forever you’ll be fine.

No easy decision. I understand the frustration as you’ve got this close. It’s hard to say at this stage whether they’ve stopped selling it so they can divert production to the BLRO \ BLNR and address the demand for those models or relaunch it next year with a new movement and Jubilee bracelet. Either way you’ve saved up and you’re in a position to negotiate if you do decide to purchase it through other channels. Best of luck

Tough purchase at the moment. You could get pretty much new watches last week for at or even below retail. In the $8K range.

Now, some for sale on TRF for $14K.

Insanity.

Glad I picked up one a month ago, had no idea it was going away.

It sucks that Rolex killed it but it seems like it has been your dream watch for the past 4+ years, I'd go for it now as price will continue to rise and life's too short to keep waiting for a watch. Have fun shopping, I'd go for the trusted sellers as they're more reputable hence it's safer.

I was in the same position. I was planning to pick one up through a AD later this year. With the news, I went ahead and got one on secondary. If things settle, I won't lose much if ever deciding to sell. If it keeps getting crazier, then I come out ahead.

buy it now. after taxes i am pretty sure the price will be a break even for you anyway, although make sure its out of state and i believe as of 4/1/19, all sites may need to charge taxes going forward no matter what, so do it this week if you can.

EDIT: just realized the 4/1/19 rule only applies to CA.

It's a complete FOMO market right now and it's ridiculous how a watch that sold at $8000 shot up so much overnight. It's not like there's any less out there now than yesterday.

However, I would just buy it now because I don't think the prices will drop. Good luck!

Just like you, none of us know the answer. I have one, and personally wouldn't buy at the current prices, but that might be the wrong answer. A week ago I would have bet you anything that they wouldn't discontinue the LN. Now look where we are.

Ha, I'm in the same boat. That was one of two watches I was looking to purchase this year. After thinking long and hard I finally decided I greatly prefer the all black GMT bezel to the bi-color bezels, only to have the LN discontinued in all metals. What a disaster.

Don’t give up on it yet! I asked to be put on the list for it a couple of months ago and then when I heard it was discontinued I assumed I’d never hear and gave up on the idea.

Out of the blue I got a call yesterday afternoon that one had arrived for me. I picked it up this morning and couldn’t be happier with it!

I asked about it being discontinued and he said it’s not officially discontinued and probably will come out with the updated movement soon enough.

Good luck with the search!

Who knows what will happen with the economy, and what that will or will not do to the market price of this seemingly discontinued model. As long as it doesn't financially burden you, I say buy one when possible- you've certainly had enough time to decide this is the right watch, so unless you plan on possibly selling it in the future, the slight premium you pay now will amortize down to practically nothing over the years.

Rolex has done a very good job of making sports watches difficult to obtain, especially for people who can't afford to vapidly pick up every model just because it's available to them via their purchased relationship with their AD. Even if something is released that you like, who knows when you'd realistically be able to buy it.

And to think, I sold a minty mint M series in December for $6500. They are out there, keep looking.

Of say buy now!
Even if you end up paying a couple thousand more, if you keep the watch for 3 years, that’s about $2 per day! If it’s worth it to you for $2 extra a day then go for it. If not then don’t!
