No, Rolex can't, but if there was insurance claim, the insurance company can re-claim the watch.

Depends - for a watch currently in production, no papers would raise my antennae. For a 5 digit or older, no papers fine w me if from seller I trust and priced right for condition. I’ve bought two such watches . At some point I’ll send in for service to RSC and get service papers which to me are no diferent than original papers unless you are planning an auction in 20 years

Get it authenticated at an AD, if they say it is Kosher, then go ahead. What do you need a warranty card if you are keeping it?

Yes I would. I was offered a 14060M, told the guy to take it to my watchmaker, he opened it right away, took some pics for me and I closed the deal. I was not in town and I received it serviced one week later.

I would not. Worth the extra money and security knowing you purchased an authentic watch.

They provide essentially none of that though. If someone has the resources to make a fake watch that can fool people they can easily fake a plastic card.

Exactly, its either genuine or it isn't. It may be worth less without, but you're buying for less too. Why would most people (not RF members) keep the papers after the warranty has expired?

Yes, I would but one without paperwork and have done in the past.
It depends upon the model and circumstances, but I have had no problems with it to date.

For vintage a lot times there is no choice.
For modern only if I knew 100% it was a keeper or the discount covered the lack of papers.

If you trust the seller, absolutely. If you need “paperwork”, send to RSC for servicing, and it will be returned with documentation noting make, model and serial number.

1) Verify the authenticity. Where did he get the watch? Why no boxes or papers?

2) If the above gives you a good feeling, the price should reflect the missing boxes and papers.

I recently bought a Breitling SuperOcean with no boxes or papers. From a trusted seller with lots of feedback and he bought it used from Tourneau. It was well vetted and price was right.

If it's an older Rolex, it wouldn't matter. Everyone wanting box and papers is more of a new thing from what I understand. Considering all the fakes floating around now a days, if I were buying a Rolex or Breitling I'd have Rolex open it up to look at the movement. That way when you go to resell you have proof it's real. Or if it's fake you send it back with proof.

Personally, I like complete sets. Box n papers.

Modern pieces, such as the one in question, without paperwork is a big red flag for me.

If it’s verified as genuine and the price is right then yes.

I wouldn’t care at all if the offer was right and it was a particular reference.
I’m probably not buying a SS sub without a birth certificate... but I’m hardly considering it an issue if it’s a PM. The authenticity issue is mitigated pretty easy on certain references.

Most of the watches in the world for sale do not have "boxes and paper", they just don't. (except, of course, on Internet forums).

Most of the population do not save the wrappings or cards that came with their purchase, whether it is a watch, tennis shoes, or a toaster.

I have purchased plenty of watches over the years without them - this "gotta' have" idea is a pretty recent one. Try to buy some Air Jordan's now days without a cardboard box and tissue paper; did you save yours!

If the friend is reliable and honest, why not, if the deal is a good one. If your friend is a bit of a twit and could have purchased a fake, perhaps you should pass. The ball is in your court.

I assume you won't be paying any less than what the market is currently going for (maybe a small friends and family discount). If that's the case, why not buy something that has all the bells and whistles for the same price.

On a modern watch, I personally like full sets for the sake of having a full set.

My philosophy is vintage and pre random serial papers are excusable. Post random we need the card because it will identify the production date etc. however I’m also less included to excuse existing production as well, even pre random (ie current subs).

Depends. Buying new modern watch, I 100% want it. However, I am looking to buy wife a 114270. She won’t ever sell. Ever. So, no I am not sure I care. If we ever have to sell, will get less, but paid less. Soo it’s fine.

You joke but we have people on here that act this way. They value a box and outdated invalid papers more than the watch itself.
