Panerai 9010 Noise
I’ve just taken delivery of a PAM661 and a PAM1305. Both have a noticeable noise when moved. I’m assuming it’s rotor movement, but having only owned Rolex and Omega previously, its a bit concerning. Has anybody else got experience of this?

I had a PAM320 (P.9001) and a PAM321 (P.9002) and both had the rotor noise you seem to be describing. I got used to it and even liked it.

Had similar issues with my newly purchased 1312 and 1048. Got a mail from Panerai works which is as below :
For calibers P9010, the construction of the automatic movement system causes a sound during automatic winding, while for the OPXXX and family, some traces appear on the balls path of the bearing quickly due to repeated shocks (even small shocks) as the balls used by Panerai are made in ceramic material and are extremely hard. In addition, if the bearing of the oscillating mass is assembled in a configuration with strong shakes, this phenomenon of balls marking on the balls path is accentuated. Those modifications of the surface-finishing cause a increase of the noise when the oscillating weight works. The noise and this matting of the balls path do not interfere with the proper functioning of the automatic winding system. So it is totally fine the watches makes these noise!! It will surely grow on you.. Sent from my ONE A2003 using Tapatalk |

The ceramic ball bearings on the rotor is what everyone is hearing in the new Panerai cal 9010 movements. I hear it in my Pam 661. Now that Rolex is finally using ceramic bearings in their new movements, I can hear my rotor in my CHNR. It’s noise is the trade off for far better wear and lower maintenance.
