Astonishing that an asteroid will pass so close to earth having been …

Identified just last week by an amateur astronomer! I would have thought NASA et al would have been able to do so more quickly …

Asteroid 2023 BU: Space rock to pass closer than some satellites https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-64411469

I think NASA is all over this..... See the Source below.

Also, NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) back in October confirmed that the DART Spacecraft fired at Dimorphos did indeed alter its orbit. It was an exercise to see if firing an object at an asteroid could alter its course to protect the Earth.

Earthlings spend trillions and trillions on climate change. Meanwhile, all it takes is one asteroid, and boom, we’re gone quicker than you can say deep impact.

What if they altered it the wrong direction?

Seems like they’re playing with fire and holding a gas can at the same time.

To me, the DART concept is the wrong way to go.

A better idea would be to quickly gather a ragtag team of drillers from the oilfield to fly to the asteroid. They would then land on it, drill into its core, and detonate a nuclear bomb to break the asteriod apart. There would also be a lot of pranks, a love interest, and a special song writing and performed for the occasion by Aerosmith.

NASA needs to get its act together and make this happen.

This asteroid was way too small for that big of a crew. I'm thinking more of a buddy picture for this one. The grizzled, cynical old veteran, just a month away from retirement, and the brash, hot-shot newbie, fresh out of asteroid deflecting school, who already thinks he knows it all . . . . . .

What? You mean the USA's billions of dollars 'spent' for a 'Star Wars' defense system is actually just smoke and mirrors? Bwaaa-ha-ha-ha-hahahahh.

Based on public information those programs and work seem to continue under the Space Development Agency.
