why is the ROO not as popular as the RO

im considering picking up a reference . 26420SO.OO.A002CA.01 found one new unworn just below the retail price i personally love the look of it the size and proportions look perfect and honestly i am glad that it isn't as popular so I can pick it up at a discount.

I can't speak for everyone but I think that the larger case sizes of the ROOs make them too big for many wrists. In addition, the bracelets of the ROs are iconic. If they made a ceramic bezel 38-39mm ROO I'd be very interested.

Proportions, elegance and wearability ensure that the Royal Oak will remain a classic. The Offshore’s popularity will have its cycles.

Too Big
Too Thick
Too "Loud"

One (or a combination of) the above reasons, would be my guess

these reasons all make perfect sense to me, which is why i adore it so much. my favorite watches are Rolex Panerai and AP. PP Aquanaut is mediocre to me but its the only one i would be interested. Thanks for all the comments :-)

It’s funny, because before the Royal Oak 40th anniversary, when AP really pushed to promote it again properly, the Offshore WAS the model to get, and the “plain” Royal Oak was barely selling at all.

There’s a good podcast episode on all this:

Trends & tastes change. Five years ago, ROO's were king & RO's were less desirable. A large part was that "big" watches seem to have peaked a few years ago & started trending back to "normal" sizes.

That said, I still prefer the Offshore.

I was coming to say this.

It just comes and goes. And now the RO is the one to have, same as 15 years ago the ROO were the ones to have.

At the end of the day what really matters is to buy and use what you like, and if you like the ROO (and can pull off their bigger size) you do you, lucky you because ROO are easier to get than RO now!

LoL I get it but my recommendation is just do it. Same thing with mine... In the long run you'll be happier wearing it (albeit carefully) than babying it.

Are you wearing it outside with a plastic cover for others to see? If so that's odd. Are you just doing it inside the home? If so - may as well take it off.

So either way you slice it, the cover should come off

It ebbs and flows in terms of the style that’s preferred. ROO was more popular a decade ago.

I’m a big fan of the ROO because if it’s durability, wrist presence and useful chrono complication.

The new 43s with improved ergonomics are a home run. Can’t wait to see them evolve it

It is the ROO that got my eyes on the brand about 10 years ago. Still is this one that keeps my interest…. I would say the mega tapisserie and its presence on the wrist.

That was the very first watch I tried on at AP House in early ‘21 (before buying my ROO 43 Taupe) and it’s just a fabulous watch

Very nice watches.

Roo vs royal oak
First reson I think of is the jumbo has remain largely unchanged since 1972, that’s a long time to build up a Fan base.

Make sure you loctite the screws.

All kidding aside. Maybe not for everyone but they are still great watches.
