I'm surprised L.A. is that high (12 on the list).

Finland is the happiest country in the world (see below). Helsinki is 48th, I wonder what the criteria were.

Let’s unpack their highly questionable methodology.

Place: totally subjective

Product: university rankings and pro sports teams both heavily slant in favor of the USA.

Programming: totally subjective

People: they gave a boost for ethnic diversity, immigration, and foreign-born residents, which is probably what’s boosting London and US cities and dragging down more homogenous cities (e.g., Shanghai, Seoul, Hong Kong)

Prosperity: giving credit for Fortune 500 companies is heavily biased in the favor of the USA. Income equality is a boost, which probably holds back Asia and South America. Income is a factor, which should favor the US if not being adjusted for local prices.

Promotion: Literally this includes 4 US websites: Google, Facebook, Instagram, and TripAdvisor. They probably only conducted the searches in the English language, which is another massive source of bias. There’s a lot of content in the Chinese language internet, Spanish language internet, etc. that would be missed, even within the four sites they chose.

With the exception of maybe Miami, I wouldn’t move back to a city if it were free and they paid me to live there.

Since Catawba nor Pinedale made the list, my care-o-meter is hovering around zero.

Just as @Krash said, I wouldn’t live in any of them if I were paid to.

Most of US cities lean a certain way. Washington DC isn’t even technically a city and certainly not #17.

Nashville is 3 times the city of #’s 12, 13, 14.

Joke of a list.

I have been to London many times and love it. My son has lived in London and now lives almost in NYC (Jersey City) of the two, he says that London is the prettier of them but NYC is the better city to live. I plan to visit sometime this year. If I am honest, given the time, I would like to visit all the great cities on the N/E coast (Boston, NYC, Philadelphia and Washington).

Just curious, why do you say this? I have been there a couple times, granted never lived there, but I found Dubai to be very clean, safe and organized. Why do you feel it should not be ranked high?

Obviously they did not consider crime when compiling this list....many of those U.S. cities are the most dangerous and crime ridden in America.

Stupid list.
As a whole London is a mess. IE within the M25 or even the north/south circulars it's a dump.

Go to Mayfair with 100m on the hip and it's the best city in the world but most who live in London don't have 100m or live anywhere near the nice parts (which are few and far between and getting fewer and fewer as the decay creeps)

I was born in London (in not a nice part but it was way better then than now iah and lived for many years) but I probably wouldn't choose London even if I had 100m

Any city in any country has its monied area where the creme de la crem live and for them "it's the best city in the world" I'd rather be rich in Mumbai than poor in LA for example

Just arrived at number 100 (current time 07.52) I'll report back when we come back onboard
Although I don't plan to see much of Marseille as I want to go to the musee de la moto today which is just on the edge of town

It is clean safe and organized, no doubt. But it has zero soul, minimal history/culture and no personality. It’s like someone created a huge Lego city in two weeks in the middle of the desert and forced people to go there. It’s a place to go to conduct business and shop and not much else. I call it the plastic city because the whole place is fake as hell. It’s definitely not the worst city on earth, but I can think of 100+ cities easy that should be ranked higher than Dubai.

Hilarious. Most cities are the best cities to live in providing you have money hence living on the right side of the river……

Don’t be silly all those cities are clean…….I grew up in Port Moresby (google it) was-still is native, however i lived well as we were rich growing our own food, we had metal cyclone fences over our cars so we wouldn’t be attacked. I was a rich kid then, great days on reflection only because I was a rich kid.

It’s all relevant.
