Hi All,

After years of collecting other vintage watch brands, I've been camping on eBay etc.. for months looking for my first Rolex. I finally settled on the classic, simple, perfectly-proportioned 14060. My priorities were uniform tritium lume, a fairly crisp case (visible lug bevels etc..), original/matching hands/dial/bezel, and box/papers.

After some false starts I just received this 1995 model and I think it's a keeper. Runs fewer than 3 seconds per day slow, lume on everything is dead and looks uniform under UV light, included all boxes and other materials except for the guarantee paper. While the 25-year-old case isn't perfect, the bevels are basically intact and the bezel is still sharp enough to cut my enemies.

How'd I do? Also bracelet or strap? (I'm liking the strap at the moment).

Looks very nice. I think the tritium 14060 is the perfect choice for entry into Rolex sport models at the moment. The price hasn't taken off yet, but you get some patina and at the same time you have a modern movement in a watch that will pass a pressure test. Nice job.

Looks fantastic! Your diligence paid off.

Since it’s such a handsome watch, it still looks great on a strap...but looks best to me on the bracelet.

Looks great especially on the SS bracelet.

I wish my 16610T didn’t have so much BS typed on the dial. If I could do it over again, I would have bought a 14060. Dial is so clean looking.

Thanks all for your feedback and general good vibes. I learned a lot over the past handful of years acquiring the rest of my collection (1950s and 1960s Omega, IWC, Longines, Zenith mainly), and was able to exercise the caution and patience it takes to catch the right fish.

Now the big question is how much wrist time those other brands are going to get, and whether I’m going to end up unloading most of them. Any of you have similar experiences after buying your first Rolex and if so, how did it pan out?

I think that's pretty much the going rate these days for a nice example with papers.

I have a 1996 T serial and love it. I have three 6 digits, but keep going back to the 14060, especially on the weekends to knock around in. The modern references are more like hefty jewelry and the 5 digits are rugged tools. Love it and my 16710 too.
