Should I let it go?

Since the arrival of two classic Rolex models, an M/3186 GMT Master II and an M-series Sea-Dweller, my Liquidmetal PO has been getting very little wrist time. So little, that this week I began thinking of putting it on the market.

I kept asking myself how I could justify having two black divers. After all, when the PO arrived, I sold my treasured 2254.50. Selling the Liquidmetal would permit fulfilling my goal of an M-series "trifecta" with the addition of the Datejust I have been considering.

So this morning, I put the LM on my wrist for perhaps the last time.

All you've done is rave about it for months, telling us how special itmis to be part of a select group of owners, and how with the Basel '11 announcements that you're even more pleased with it.
I debated if i'd made an error after getting mine, but your commentsmon these boards made me realise I hadn't and it's my ultimate keeper.
I will have two black divers, as i'm on the lookout for a sea dweller!

Unless you are going to wear it several times a month sell it for what it's worth. It doesn't do any good in the box collecting dust.

This is a very serious situation. I would suggest that you send me that watch ASAP for safe keeping while you deliberate on the matter.

On second thought don't do that....you have already done enough "damage" enabling my Omega desires

All kidding aside I can appreciate your logic. If it were me and I truly didn't wear it much then I probably wouldn't keep it. My main qualifications for keeping a watch I don't wear much are a) legitimate sentimental value and/or b) a high collectible potential. I only have two watches in this category.

Besides you can't really go wrong by adding a Rolex DJ your collection.

Fr.John, I suggest you give it a good consideration of flipping the PO LM. This is a awesome piece to have in your collection. I'm suprised you are having second thoughts of it!

On a serious note, I will be most happy to take it over your hands if you decide to sell it!

In all seriousness - I vote for keeping it as it won't be made again and looks like it may be of some value in the future. There will be plenty more if M serial DJ to buy in the future.

How about letting one of your Speedies go to make room for the DJ?

Rolex, the force is very strong in that one. I jested with you when you acquired your M&M's that you had caught the bug. But in all seriousness, if it will not get ample wrist time to justify ownership, let it go. After all these watches were meant to be worn and enjoyed, any possible appreciation in value is coinkeedeenkinal. Looking into my crystal ball, I also see you needing a Daytona to fill one of you chronograph niche.

My 2 cents -
I've never been a flipper...

I fall in love with each piece...

Luckily I have the means to keep them all even when they don't get much wrist time...


Every so often, I'll blow the dust off of one and fall in love with it all over again...

Almost every other watch out there you could re-acquire...but if you fall back in love with the PO LM - you may not get another chance at it.


I think the Rolex novelty will wear off...the LM is such a great watch I hold it in greater revere than many of my Rolexes that cost twice and three times as much...

I think that you'll regret the decision...
but it's your decision to make..

as for me...my LM goes to my future son/son-inlaw/nephew, or heck even my daughter ( if the current trend continues, 42mm will be a ladies watch by the time she's ready)

For all the time I've viewed this forum, it's been clear that you all deeply for certain watches, acquire them then flip them later when there's a new deep crush. Some if this leads to regret and reacquisition, some not. I'm not sure that you're really interested in my views. How about selling it to someone with similar tendencies with a buyback option - easier to deal with regret if it arises!

My Rolex always get more attention than the Omega + PAM....So - I completely understand .... The LM is a stunning watch by anyones standards....but if you're not feeling it anymore..and you have another purchase in mind (so it's basically one for one)...then I always say do what makes you happy.

I've come to my senses. I wore the Liquidmetal all day yesterday and could hardly keep my eyes off of it. As my wife is fond of saying, "It is so elegant!" And it is. The accuracy, fit, and finish is far beyond anything else in my collection.

The two Rolexes are indeed classics but are really not in the same league as the Liquidmetal. And looking at the new ceramic POs, I still prefer the one I have.

The M-series GMT Master II with the cal. 3186 movement and the Sea-Dweller, although not LEs, are quite desirable and should maintain their value as will the Liquidmetal.

So no changes are in store among these three:

Glad to see you have come to your senses, the PO, stands out amongst those three watches. It truley is a lovely piece and I have owned both those Rolexes. I am looking at trying to get LM Po or a new PO.

I was definitely going to vote against you getting rid of it !

I've come VERY close to selling off both my 2531.80, and my PO (both of which I bought brand new from an AD) just to get a (used) Rolex Sub. At the end, I backed out and found out I couldn't live with myself if I sold the two watches I've been waiting years to get.

Again, great final decision, and GREAT collection !
