Broke the glass of my PAM219

It had to happen one day! While I was putting on the watch, I accidently dropped it from about chest height. It fell face down on the tiles in the kitchen. The crown guard got dented and there is a crack on the glass at 6 o'clock.

Went to Panerai 5 hours later and brought it in for glass replacement. Verdict = 200 USD. I specifically asked not go repair anything else, nor polish it. I like it when my watch looks rugged but I can't stand the glass being broken.

I did however asked them to check if everything is alright with the movement. It kept time between dropping it and bringing it in, so I suspect no harm was done on the movement. They will do that free of charge.

Sorry to hear!

I'm surprised Panerai would simply replace the crystal without conducting a service...

Update: The service center checked the movement and told me there is a malfunction due to the impact. They got back to me with a quote for a complete overhaul of the movement (inspection, oiling, 24-hour test, new gaskets, plus some other interventions which I can't recall), replacement of the hands (something about compliance to specifications every time a timepiece gets disassembled at Panerai - didn't fully understand this bit), and replacement of the glass. New verdict = 900 USD.

I gave them the go-ahead. The polishing was offered to me free of charge but I declined that.

All in all, I'm a happy man. I'll get the watch back knowing that the Officine has taken good care of it. I absolutely love this timepiece - it's a discontinued model, made for left-handed people, and simply a beautiful casual watch.

I had mine sent to repair recently and I sent it into the Boutique January 31st. They sent it out for diagnosis and I gave them the okay and I had it back in my hands on March 8th.

It has damage from a drop as well. They did a great job and I was very happy with the work.

I will get it back in the second week of August, so 6 weeks from drop off to pick up.

Sapphire crystals will break fairly easily when dropped on a hard surface. The owner of the local Rolex AD told me that. Now I know he was correct.
