[For sharing and inputs] 1803 Cigarette boat hands variants
In my quest for cigarette boat hand sets, I came across 4 different variants as follows. It seems that these hand sets were only produced in 1964 as replacement hands but some of the ad descriptions differ. The plot thickens...
Variant 1 - lume at hour hand nearer to base; pic credit: @Richard Carver Variant 2 - lume at hour hand nearer to tip Variant 3 - no lume; pic credit: Davide Parmegiani 100 fabulous daydate for sale Variant 4 - enamel black;pic credit: Davide Parmegiani 100 fabulous daydate for sale Wonder if there are varieties in alpha hands as well? To my knowledge, there are only the blue ones for visually impaired. |

Here is my (former) WG 1803 with non-lume cigarette hands, serial 1.1 million.
I'm fairly certain these hands were original to the watch, and not replacement hands. |

Always baffled though, seen quite a number of DDs with *T Swiss T* dials and no lume used at all, neither on hands or lume plots. Yours is not the first. So why does Rolex still use T T designation in the first place?

OP, what leads you to think these were only service hands? |

Actually I am not too sure now after great sharing posts from Dries and Swish. From online knowledge, read that CB hands were produced in the '63-'64 era and have now seen that to be true with the lume and non lume versions so far.
However, from my research, I was surprised by 1st and 2nd pic that even the lume ones had positional differences in the hour hand. Believe these 2 to be authentic as 2nd pic was purchased from a recognised parts retailer but I am quite sure 2nd pic is service replacement. We can discuss more via WA/PM |

A couple of thoughts.
The hands being produced by subcontractors in that period were made for different dial combinations. So non-lume vs lume was for a purpose. The dial doesn’t get replaced over time but the hands do. So you will find 60 years later all sorts of combinations as indie watchmakers may have used either handset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

These were issued hands on new watches for circa 1964. They were also supplied that year as replacement service hands so you do see them on some later watches, These were basically transitional hands between the alpha and the stick hands of today. So, we have one of those lovely Rolex aberrations that keep us fascinated. :)

Great thread! My favorite DD hand style. Would love to find a set for my WG 1803.

Here is my vintage day date with original “cigarette boat” hands. Adds a little extra interesting character to an already beautiful vintage watch.
