Decided on my next piece...colour choice was difficult!

Hi Guys,

I bought my first Rolex in January, an Explorer 214270 to cap of a good year in work and to mark my 26th Birthday and I have loved every second on having it on my wrist. I have recently been looking for my next piece and ive decided on a DJ41 but I was finding it difficult to choose between the Rhodium or Blue.

I always liked the Blue more but because I have a blue dial in my collection(Seamaster 300m) I thought it'd be better going for the Rhodium.

So anyways I went into my AD yesterday and as luck would have it they had both the Rhodium & the blue dial in the safe and in the configuration that I want! once I seen them side by side I instantly fell in love with the Blue Dial, its just stunning! I like the smooth Bezel too as I think it just makes it that little more understated and sporty versus the fluted.

After trying both on I told my AD I preferred the Blue dial and they said they'd take a deposit and that I should have the piece on around 4-5 months...this was disheartening to say the least but I know the blue dial is highly sought after.

I said id like to go ahead and the AD pulled up my profile details as the lady I dealt with was not my usual contact, my usual SA was on holiday. Once she looked at my profile and buying history she said shes be back in a moment...Ive only purchased two watches in my life which was the Seamaster & the Explorer both with this AD.

Once she had gone in the back room for a chat with a colleague she came back and said because im my loyalty and the notes she had read on my profile that they'd like to offer me the DJ41 they have in the safe to me - this was an very pleasant surprise and I have put down 50% and will pick the piece in a few weeks! All in All it was a great day.

Do you think it suits me? id welcome any thoughts and feedback. Thanks for reading!

P.S - they had some cool mens aftershave on the desk which they said they'd give me a new bottle of when I next come in, cool bonus!

Fantastic choice, can’t go working with either reference IMO.

I’m confused though ... they had it there, you paid a deposit and your coming back in a few weeks?

@brandrea - Ha well my partner wasnt with me and I was specifically told not to buy anything until they were with me! plus it was close to closing time so I didnt want to rush the experience and I also thought id be nice to wait for my usual SA who was is on holiday at the moment, I bought both the Explorer & the Seamaster from her so its a sentimental thing and I didnt want her to miss out on the sale.

Out of everything on that tray it’s my fav pick. Quite similar to the explorer but still incredible

Ps I’d pick blue first over any other variant apart from meteorite in some cases

Very nice. I like your taste as I also have the Explorer and the blue dial DJ41.
I’m curious why you have to wait a few weeks for the watch if they already have it “in the safe”.

I am choosing to wait until the usual SA I deal with is back from holiday, as ive bought my previous two watches from her personally so it something id like to do - plus I want her to get the sale

Thanks and I agree I like that config because it seems to be a good balance between dressy/sporty

OP great choice. I love the DJ in blue. I was tempted to get a vintage DJ in blue the other week but walked out with an air king in blue with 369 dial. The DJ36 is next on my list (not for quite a while though )

Interesting that they had the new 2020 coloured dial OP, we’re they available to buy or just to try on?

Great choice on the airking 369, its a rarely seen model and I think that adds to the appeal!

It's a beauty. I actually prefer the fluted bezel. Curious if the smooth bezels show scratches? I guess I do have a smooth bezel on a a dress watch and it shows no scratches. Great choice and wear in good health!

Yes, or I might possibly go for the blue dial with Roman numerals.
