Inheritance help and advice

Hi All,

Some time ago I inherited a vintage Rolex. I would like to learn more about the watch, see if it is authentic and find an original buckle.

I think the watch is a 1946 Rolex Precision. It has two numbers stamped on the back: 519038 and directly under this 773. The watch has a stainless steel case, a gold bezel and a rose gold crown. The face has a sub-second hand and has been refurbished. I don't know if any of this is how it came out of the factory. Attached are a couple of pictures.

Any information would be welcome. In particular, what the original buckle looked like and where I could buy one.

Thanks!

Its a fancy lugged case (tear drop), probably a model 4498 from the late 1940s to early 1950s. I cant zoom in on the dial enough to see detail but it looks like the correct style of dial and printed crown for this style of watch. I am going to presume it has been refinished due to it missing some wording above the sub second. The hands dont look original either. They arent narrow enough.
An original buckle would probably have been a large crown, probably 9K gold.
Your current strap is too narrow for the watch.

Dear offrdmania, Thanks for the information, that is very helpful. The strap is too small. I think I need one that is 16mm at the lugs and 14mm at the buckle. Also good to know I need to find a large crown model. Do you know what the 773 means or of any sources for that buckle? All the best.

The fancy lug cases didnt follow the same serial numbers as the Oyster cases. The 773 may be a style number possibly?

Thanks, I will check into that. I might give an indication of the materials of the case or the face. Cheers!

It may also be a movement designation. I’m not that familiar with the much earlier movements
