Help!?!?!
Big decision here. AD just offered me a 5270P. I'd normally jump on it, as it's one of my all time favorites. HOWEVER... I have a 5740 that's supposed to come in the next couple months and potentially one other hard to get sport model.
My collection is almost ALL sport models. Been waiting for the right dress watch that is epic, but timing is not great. If I take this and the 5740 comes on the sooner side, I may not be able to pull the trigger...Any advice? |

It's definitely a nice watch there's no doubt about it. The dial does show more golden in low lighting but when taken out in the sun the salmon colour comes out more. Other than that the case design, sizing and legibility is great. My AD let me take it outside but personally i like the 5271p baguette diamond reference
I have been also looking to get a AC / PCC but i think i may wait it out and get the new 5212 weekly calendar and see how i feel then |

Really looks better in person...IMHO
Picture does not do the dial justice! |

Initially I was thinking of getting both but then changed my mind on 5270P. 5740G is an awesome watch and I have no regrets getting it. If you are thinking of getting both I would get the 5270P first as Patek may discontinue it next year or the year after but they are unlikely to discontinue the 5740G any time soon.

If you truly cannot make the 5740 happen with the 5270 now then maybe not but honestly I bet you can find a way to do both as the 5740 is like accepting a 80k gift. Always can make room for that!

Don’t buy it if you don’t really want it or not ready for it...it’s not a 10k watch we are talking about. Mistakes are costly at this level.

It's hard to get much better than the 5270, and I'm more of a fan of the "simple" Nautilus variants.
I suppose it depends - what else is in your collection? |

As you mention you have many sports watches, I will just sell them for the 5740. Ideally, get both the 5270p and 5740. Also who knows, the 5270p might become a 500k watch in the future? There is a waiting list for the VIP as well for the 5270p currently.

Impossible choice... But you know what that say about a bird in hand...... The 5270p objectively speaking really is better than a 5740g in just about every way minus the resale due to the Nautilus craze.

I have mostly sports watches as well, including a 5712... but between the 5270p and 5740g, I would choose the 5270p without hesitation if I had the financial fortitude. When I tried it on, the 5270p was just perfection in nearly every way. The 5740 dial doesn’t sing to me and I much prefer the “simpler” nautiluses. Good luck w your decision!

5270p is really on my wish list when I
take the watch game to the next level. Just not there...yet... But that is my vote |

Both AD in my area told me the same thing. I was a little surprised because this is not an Aqualus, so I guess either the production number is probably very low, or demand is genuinely high, or both.
I doubt my AD are lying because they have always been upfront about allocation and always delivered. |

I would get the 5740.... The 5270P is relatively easy to get....in fact wait a bit and you might find price softens even further.....

From what I was told, It's not an application piece per se, but may as well be. Patek will not sell the watch to just some random person. They want the watch to go to a collector with a relationship to the brand. When I asked if I did decide to pass and offer it to someone I know, they said absolutely NO.
The lack of inventory for the pieces we all want is frustrating to say the least, but in the end it is what controls the brand and the value. Just to give more color to my situation, the piece was ordered for another client who decided to pass. My AD remembered me mentioning that I really loved the watch. The owner then went down the "list" of good clients who may want it. Still torn. I adore the watch and could sell others to fund this, but timing is not great. Thank you to all who commented. I must say, thought the 5740 would have received more love... Maybe I'll flip a coin Quote:

^^ The AD is not lying just giving you a very strong sales pitch. There are numerous threads on allocations in the USA which is different to say UK. The USA allocates to dealers who sell to whoever they want and in some cases even leave the application piece in their safe and the sell to a valued client the moment the new model is produced!!! This even applies to the 5522 and all nautilus anniversary pieces. HSNY was not involved. In UK totally different and Rhone wants to know the person the watch is being allocated to. Now irrespective of how nice the 5270P is, I don't believe it's selling. I think the price point was too high....however that doesn't matter what I think...the reality is I know of 2 dealers in the UK who have yet to sell a single watch. However the 5740 they have queues to NY and back....

I think it depends on the AD (in the US). I know several ADs who have waiting lists for the 5270p. And one of the ADs has not even received one to sell yet..

I personally prefer the 5270 especially in platinum however if you're a sports watch person and I know South FL is big on their sports then perhaps the nautilus is for you
