I recently purchased my dream watch. The gentleman I purchased it from hadn't worn it in a couple of years. The problem I'm having is it doesn't want to keep time. The strange thing is the second hand doesn't stop but it's like the hour and minute hand sticks or something I've seen it lose 30 mins in a hour. When I set it the hands move freely no drag at all. I'm not sure what it may be. The paperwork shows the watch was serviced by Rolex in 2007. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to say; I think you need a good watchmaker.

Thanks when I checked here in my area I can not find a watchmaker who will touch a Rolex. Due you have any recommendations for someone I can send it too. I'm a little concerned about mailing it but if that's whats required I'll send it. I'd just like to hear from other members on whom they've dealt with and had good results. This is my first Rolex, been wearing Breitlings and Omegas. Really want to get the problem corrected so I can wear it.

Of course you can send it to Rolex in New York, but there must be some decent watchmakers in the VA/DC area so you can stay local.

Any suggestions from anyone out there?

Have you tried winding it 40 turns before wearing it?

Yes I tried the 40 winds, the strange thing is if I set the watch around 11pm the watch will keep time up to about 6am then it will go back to losing time. I've tried setting it other times and it loses time. The second hand never seems to stop

Update and Thanks: today I spoke with an Rolex service facility and described the problem I had been having. The watchmaker told be to pull the stem out 2nd position and rotate the hands through 30 days of date changes. Even though it's a quick set model. He stated the watch had been setting for several years and the lubrication had probably stiffened. I rotated the hands as instructed boy did it take a while but believe it or not the watch is now keeping perfect time or shall I say keeping time. I have not checked it against a time source just set it to my cell phone time and it's working. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who responded as well as pass the information on in case someone else has the same problem. I'm still going to get it serviced but I can rest a little and at least wear it for a bit until.

If you feel no drag when you change the time the canon pinion is loose and should be tightned or replaced on your next service. Rik

Thanks there isn't a lot of drag. So far it's keeping time but I plan on sending it too you for the service after the holidays.
