What is a reasonable second watch to ask for?

What do you guys think is a reasonable second watch to ask for from an AD?

I got the polar explorer a few weeks ago.

Is it ridiculous to ask for a steel GMT, Starbucks, and steel Skydweller blue or green dial?

I’m asking for Submariner date and no date, currently.

I figure the one I definitely can’t ask for is steel Daytona…which is kind of my end game watch.

A reasonable request is to always ask for what you’d like to purchase. Don’t get sucked in to thinking the AD is against you etc. my second purchase from the AD was a BLNR - it can be done.

First, congrats on your Polar. Some would say that particular reference as your first is a very good start! From my experience, it really depends how well you get along with your SA and how much they like you.

A SubLN would be a very reasonable ask. BLNR/LV could happen if they really like you. BLRO if they really, really, like you. SkyD Blue/Green if they (really x 3) ... you get the idea. Most importantly, ask for what you want. Good luck!

I agree with this. My BLNR I just got was my first Rolex purchase (although not my first purchase) from my AD. Is the polar the only thing you’ve bought there or do you have other spend (jewelry, Tudor, etc) there? A SkyD or a Daytona might be a real stretch, but an LV sub or a GMT isn’t outside the realm of possible if they like you and you connect well with your SA.

What is a reasonable second watch to ask for?

I had to beg an kiss the AD salesman his hand for the possibility to buy their last Milgauss in stock.
After mentioned purchase (once at home) I overthought this experience and promised myself that I will do this never again in my life.
Almost 60 years of age now and done with these BS Rolex AD games and sick culture.

IMHO every Rolex reference should be reasonable to ask for @Rolex Boutique/ AD.

Ask for the watch you want to buy, not one you think you may get.

What Ollie said! Otherwise, what’s the point? Any Rolex is thousands of dollars. We should never have to ask if we can have the privilege of handing the AD that kind of money, for one watch. Tell your SA all of the watches on your list, and that you will accept them in whatever order they offer them to you, including the specific Daytona that you want. The worst that can happen is that they say it may take a long time.

Just get a Speedmaster, then you'll have a terrific pair of watches and can move on free of such concerns.

The watch you want to own and wear what could be simpler and ADs are not doing you a favour to sell you any watch. Its what there business is for to sell as many of the products they sell to anyone that entered there retail store.

Compile a few short list and discuss with your AD SA to work on these might be best.

Realistically you can ask for anything - worst that’ll happen is you’ll have to wait a bit longer for one vs. another.

Equally if you only got the Exp II a couple of weeks ago, I would say enjoy that until you have your heart set on a specific next piece. Then ask for the one piece you want.

Tell them what you want to buy and if you can’t buy it from them go gray. I don’t support dealers who won’t sell me an item they are supposed to have in the store and tell me to spend money on other items to be considered

I'd ask for anything you're interested in.
Nothing unreasonable about that. Worst they can say is no.

Go for a DD or DJ. Would make a nice companion piece for the Explorer.

A Submariner ND would be the one. Two good watches in your collection that can be worn day to day and stay around for a lifetime. Next would be a Omega Speedmaster and some cool straps and bracelets. By that point you should be clear on what you want next. I would go Date Just on Jubilee bracelet with the fluted bezel. White/Silver dial.

Why wouldn’t you ask for what you want? Why would you deny yourself something based purely out of speculation of what the sales person may be thinking?

You may not get what you ask for but you won’t get what you don’t ask for either. Long shot or not, there is zero downside to asking.

Ask for whatever you want…it’s the Wild West and there are no rules. Build a relationship with the right person, don’t buy watches that you don’t really want to wear, and chase excellence in every aspect of life. You’ll get that steel Daytona.

Imho simply ask the AD for what you truly desire and will wear.

All good

Ask for 3 or 4 that you want and see what happens. I got a batgirl gmt as a second purchase so you never know.

The next watch you want should be the one you ask for. What's unreasonable about asking for what you want?

I would say, in general, they are all tough as a second watch. Having said that it depends how well you are liked and who you are dealing with at your AD.

I would say Pepsi and Steel Sky blue/green are a tall order but only way to know is to ask.

The others are easier but would still be a stretch with a limited relationship.

Just ask for whatever you want, and when they say no just walk off. Why this is so complicated.

My first Rolex purchase from my favorite AD was a BLNR. I am likely to get a sub next. Just tell them what you want, decide, be specific, make them know you are serious and ready to purchase again. Don’t go in there with a laundry list, decide then tell them what you want. Tie a milestone to it (birthday, anniversary, promotion l, etc) and that will increase your chances.

As for what you want. I got a BLRO followed by a Sub. Wouldn’t buy anything I don’t absolutely yearn for.
