Well the second hand prices are doing quite well for the 5712 as well, if bought at the right price, you can get your money back quite easily, just maybe you won't make a few bucks like the 5711, but money back is doable...

Yup. But I think if you dont like your 5711 the 5712 will become a lot cheaper looking at crazy 5711 prices

Patek 5711 or 5712?
5711 for the win, I have seen the 5712 in the flesh and have passed on the opportunity to buy one. In my opinion the dial is just too busy for a 40mm case.
5711 maybe be a bit too understated, but the 5712 is a bit too overstated. If it was a 42-43mm case I could see all of the complications fitting in harmony. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

5712 has the more interesting 240 caliber with micro rotor. If you have any other Pateks with the 324 caliber (as in the 5711) you might go with the 5712.

Which is more versatile? 5711/1A or 5712/1A
Curious whether the 5711 or 5712 looks better with a tee shirt and shorts? What about with a suit?
Any thoughts on which one is more casual or which is more formal? Looking to wear this watch 80% of the time, and rotate the rest of my collection the other 20%. So is the 5711 or 5712 (both in steel, blue dial) more versatile as a daily wearer? |

IMO (disclaimer I am far from being an expert) the 5712 is the more casual watch and based on your criteria for use should work better for you although both the 5711 & 5712 can work with suit or shorts. I'm happy with the 5712. |

I can't wait to get a 5712 back in my stable. When it happens it will be my third and I won't be releasing it again.

Buy the 5711, wear it for a while, then sell it for $30k. Get 5712.

Patek 5711 or 5712?
Both transition well from suit to t-shirt, though I think that the 5712 is slightly more casual with the busier dial and splash of red.
The 5711 is so true to the timeless Genta design, and so beautiful and symmetrical. Personally, I'd go for the 5711. On the other hand, if you like the 5712 more, then go for it because it's *nice to be different*. I'm enjoying a 5711 with white dial at the moment and loving it. Having said all that, I think my favorite Nautilus, perhaps even favorite watch -period - may be the 5726. For me, that could be a one-and-done watch. |

I was having such a bad day, until I read your post. Thank you for the laugh.
I defy anyone who's read your post, not to laugh. To get a bit more serious. I could be totally wrong, but it sounds like someone told you Nautilus was a model range to go for and you've fallen for it. Perhaps you're speculating. I only say this because you like the simplicity but maybe you don't. You like this ,but maybe you don't. You like that, but maybe you don't. If the 5711 is too plane, and the 5712 is too busy - simple buy the 5726. I'm not having a go or being disparaging, but come on. You like that it's cheaper, but does that make it inferior. If you're really passionate about buying a Nautilus, I think you could have conveyed and constructed your post so much better. My hunch is you've been offered these two beauties and think you have to buy one, but don't know which one. You don't have to buy either. Don't waste big chucks of money on a watch you're not head over heals in love with. However you won't lose money on either and probably would make money - hence my mentioning the speculation earlier. The 5980 & 5990 are also beauties, maybe you'll fall for one of those. I hope you find my response helpful. Btw I'm a Rolex man, but bought a 5726 for my 50th birthday - because it's a symmetrical beauty. |

Hi.
Super response. I applaud your not wanting to speculate, even though you easily could. Perhaps you could spend a few hours in the dealership alternating each on your wrist. You'll make the right decision. Do you have any other watches? The look and feel of those might sway you. Also, you could consider helping out a fellow site member by saving him/her a few years wait by selling them the surplus watch. Or even charging them an extra $1000 and donating the extra to charity. May I ask the reason for your abundance of luck with regards to being offered both Watches. Btw, you're not a mess, it's just that anyone reading the original post would think you are, but after reading your second post, they would know better. Regards |

5711 is stunning and so is 5712. But on point of difference i'd go for the 5712 just to break away from the 5711 wanters... which is too much of an obvious choice ... 5712 shows a bit more class and individualism..

The Steel 5711 or 5712 dilenma
I had your same problem but it is finally resolved now, I had an Aquanaut time only and that got me into the Pateks and in love with the Nautilus range. I asked my dealer for a 5711 and she said it would take a while, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Pre-Owned one for way above list. I loved it and could hardly get it off my wrist, my other watches suffered. Four months in I was told there was a new 5712 available for me at retail if I wanted it, and so I jumped at the chance and also sold the pre owned 5711 at a profit. My 5712 however for some reason didn’t get as much wrist time as the pre owned 5711 did and I started thinking I had fallen out of love with the Nautilus range, that was until I got the call about a new 5711 at retail which I then picked up. The 5711 has gone to being my favourite watch again with my 5712 sitting mostly in my safe.
I know it is a personal taste thing, but the 5711 has a level of style and finesse to it, it feels like it is not trying to impress yet impresses the hell out of me everytime I look at it. The days I wear the 5712 I feel like I am wearing ‘my other watch’ The designs strength is its understatedness and everything else just feels like an add on. |
