It is certainly very nice, but my modest budget is such that I tend to get a watch in a precious metal unless it's not available in stainless steel. But, if your budget allows it, and there aren't any other watches you would prefer to acquire for that price, then I would say go for it. :)

Khalid, considering you have most of the current range of Pateks why miss out on the complete set. Congs in advance.

It's justifiably less expensive than a perpetual chronograph and arguably the ultimate model in the Nautilus line. I look upon it more as a trophy watch than as a grail. If money were no object, then why not?

Cheers, so the new would be around 230-40, perfect heavyweight.

Who is the 5711P really meant for?

I think the 5711P is for the collector/connoisseur who has every other Patek.

The 5711 is one of the best known Pateks and while most avid collectors own one, the P takes you to another level. Like going from a mere Stradivari violin (if one can even say mere Stradivari) to a golden period Stradivari violin or the Il Canone Guaneri del Gesu. Or from wearing John Lobb shoes to wearing John Lobb St. James shoes.

I am in the no camp. However if they are truly limited then in 10 years could be valuable. I would want to be 30-40 back on that piece to even think about it. At that discount I am still a 95% no. My two cents.

I also have the 5711 A and love it

That's heavy for such a slim watch! My plat DD2 is 293g but nowhere near $95! Man I'd love to own this.

After some deliberation...

... I am personally in the "no" camp for reasons stated by myopiccoog above. Yes, it will probably be a rare beast and it will probably trade and appreciate above retail. But for the same reasons that I wouldn't purchase a 5131 above retail (and I appreciate all its detail, the enamel dial making process, etc), I wouldn't purchase a 5711P unless it was at a significant discount over its supposed $95K MSRP.

And I got pretty excited about it too:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=302604

For the watch's history, intended purpose, and general level of complications - versus its proposed MSRP of $95K - I would go for other pieces. But that's just me.

That P-deep blue is really nice. Since you have such a great collection. I think you should add this one

Khalid,

I think this timepiece would look incredible in your collection as you already have an awful lot of very complicated and impressive watches! There's something very special about that simple and casual watch in such a precious metal (with, of course, the small diamond).

...However, I know I would still try to see if I can get a more complicated timepiece first. It's just a matter of tastes and preferences but I would prefer to look at complicated Patek's or simpler dress watches in the Calatrava line before buying that one. As a collectible if only a very few get produced (as I expect it will be) it would probably be a good choice but I must still say I have a little something for a fine Patek dress watch or a lovely watch with some sort of a calendar or a chronograph.

5711P is it worth??

For that price I would opt for the 5960p, or 5146R and save some money.

Edit: just saw you bought it. Congratulations!!!

Khalid, congrats for an amazing piece. I'd like to go for it too, sometime. Is it a limited production or I will be able to find it later too?

According to another website, PP made 10-15 of them as custom orders but supposedly won't do these kinds of requests again. But then another post says PP will make few of them per year, not exactly limited edition but will be very rare.

Your best bet is Patek Salon, but they give practically zero discounts though.
