Crown on end rotational?

Should the Crown on the end of the GMT II still rotate when in the fully locked in position? A friend of mine said the Crown should be in the upright position at all times?

Your friend is wrong.

Many posters here have crowns that are not upright when fully screwed in, mine included.

Different watches, different crown orientation.

No. If you force it further you will break it.. The crown is only upright in pictures.

Interesting. Is the OP asking about whether the crown should be upright when screwed down or if the crown should rotate perpetually when pushed in completely? I read it as the latter.

I guess I scored on my Sub Date. It lines up nicely. Maybe just a hair towards 11 o'clock, but it pretty much looks bang on.

Mine's not even close.. I am surprised to see how many posts of "It doesn't matter" though. I think if we all had the choice, we'd ideally want the crown perfectly aligned, no?

Mine too

Also, I like that it points to 4:00, I can tell very quickly by looking that it is screwed down completely. I like that...

Mine is almost perfectly upside down. Like everyone has said, does not matter though.

If your inquiry was asking wether the crown should be able to be turned continuously one it is locked down... The answer is no.

Mine is tight and locked down. The Rolex crown is to one side, but after a few drinks it looks good !!

My GMT2c points to 4 when fully screwed in, my sub points to 1.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a crown pointing up as a potential "benefit" on the used market.

Seems odd to think about the crown facing "up" on an object that is in motion more or less constantly. What's next? A crown that self rotates to keep itself vertical as you move your hand around? Up is a constant variable for a wristwatch.
Will Rolex patent a self vertical orientation system for it's crowns? Perhaps GPS integrated in to the end with a micro servo motor powered by a separate perpetual rotor?

This is an age of wonders my friends...

I was told by a fairly reliable AD rep that the DD 40 will have a crown that points up. I don't know if that is part of the new movement, something that was perfected with the Skydweller or...?

Everyone knows if the crown is not upright it's not a real Rolex.

Uh. . . right?
