Crown observations
Funny to see how large the crown on the Sub is vs. the GMT. Something that I really didn't think about all too much until I acquired the Snowflake. When compared to the 6-digit, it just seemed like - oh, bigger case = bigger crown.
The interesting thing is that going from 4 to 5 to 6 digit, it seems like the one thing that hasn't wavered is how large the Sub crown is. I think I personally prefer the GMT crown proportionally, but in terms of actual use, turning that big honkin' Sub crown is much easier!

I prefer the new Tudors with the beefy crown and no guards the best. It is a pleasure to wind, unlike my Moonwatch which can be a PITA to wind.

Big short crown is the best. A la the old school big crown sub with the brevet crowns. Or like mentioned above the Black Bays with no guards and a big but short crown. Very easy to grasp, use, pleasure to wind. I find the 5 digit GMT crowns waaaaayy too small and the 6 digit crowns pretty good but not as easy to use as the Tudors.

I also used to prefer the Twinlock sized crowns on the GMT's and EXP II's from a visual perspective.
Eventually I came to appreciate the ease of operation of the Triplock crown on Subs because of it's proportions and larger thread. On my DSSD it's perfect to operate in terms of proportions and from a visual perspectives as it's even bigger again |
