Would you trade a Daytona C for a Platinum Day Date?

I have a YG Day Date that my wife gave me when we got married, I have also had several WG or Platinum Day Dates over the years and I have traded them for other things and I am missing it again, I don’t feel like dropping 25/30k out of pocket right now for one but I could trade my Daytona C I think for one. Would you do that or try and let the itch pass.

I love this comment that Daytona will fall out of hype sooner or later. A price decrease or loss in value has never happened since I have been following Daytonas since they were first introduced. You will have to show me what proof you have to back this statement...

The hype is new, the last 5 of 50 years of the model. The DD is a classical, having also the the added value of PM.
If the 500-Ceramic Daytona will be worth the starting grey market price we'll see in 10 years

Which DD?? Size 40mm? Newer model? Guess it depends on how much money you have to add.

If the numbers were right, I would probably do it.

But the of PT DD is my grail watch.

I would do it if the numbers are good. Much prefer the Platinum DD.

Absolutely. How often do you really use the function of the Daytona? The Day Date is classic, useful, and the epitome of success.

You already have a YG DD so I would prefer to keep the Daytona - they make a good combination.

In the UK they did drop a little in popularity (read price for pre-owned examples) for about 6-12 months prior to the launch of the new 116500.....I know this because I had just been fortunate enough to buy one from an AD after a 4.5 year wait!! Other than that short period then you are quite right about their popularity and like you I don't see that changing much in the years to come (although hopefully the prices on the secondary market will soften a little in the coming years).

Since the El Primero Daytona was introduced, you could not walk into an AD and simply buy one in steel.

Waitlists where years long 32 years ago, this is not a 5 year old hype!

DD all day! To be fair, I'm not a fan of the Daytona. Unless it's a Paul Newman

This. The 116520 had 3-5 year wait. I think people tend to think “this is a bubble” rather than this is the “new normal.” While there may be some movement in second hand market, even if those prices were to drop 30% they would still be well above retail- not as great of an investment, but still an indication that getting one from an AD would require a wait or VIP status, or perhaps dumb luck.

I’m a huge Daytona fan, but I prefer the 116520 and think a platinum DD40 would be the business. I would definitely trade a 500 for one.

Yes in a heartbeat but not for a 36mm.

For a 40mm DD40 228206 hell yeah in 2 seconds.

The most recognizable on earth? Not a chance. Not among people that don’t follow Rolex.
