How time flies! sub nostalgia

Looking down at my over 50 year old sub 5513 today it made me think of what a timeless design the Rolex submariner is. Also some bonus ads from the era. $195 in 1960 is worth $1,689.05 today, so the price has increased dramatically.

Wow! Still a stunner! Love that watch. I picked up the new model of it a couple years ago and look forward to its 50 year anniversary.

Stunning. Simply proves a watch is meant to be worn and enjoyed, yet still look terrific after 50 years

Damn that is a sweet looking (and technically near perfect) watch. It holds its own with anything out there today, and I do mean anything!!!

Man that is so cool!!!

Still looks brand new. You look after your watches extremely well.

Did you ever have that polished at any time?"

So nice. Thanks for sharing. I still smile every time I look at my 14060M but it’s only 20 years old.

I haven’t had it polished and I’m unsure if it was ever polished but, the case is in great shape and lugs are still perfect. Its my birth year piece, I bought it some time ago. It took me a while to find it, I passed on over 15, since I wanted my exact year and a mint example. The serial reflects my year, as does the case back date/month stamp. It’s a pretty uncanny feeling knowing that this watch was manufactured and probably sold the year I entered this world. I’ve admired Rolex since I was a kid and always promised myself I’d have one. Little did I know back then that I’d end up owning quite a few

Lovely watch, definitely a rare piece. I'll offer you $1690 for it ;)

Just kidding! Well done on acquiring the right birthwatch. Heck of a story.

¿$1690? That would be cool right? However, did you note that Rolex have raised their pricing by at least 500% compared to inflation? Interesting fact I guess. As one poster alluded, I guess production costs do mirror somewhat inflation, in so much as the wages evidently must increase in-line with inflation but, what about the advancement in manufacturing technology which has allegedly reduced many manual processes? Nonetheless, an interesting topic

And you hear some wondering why the sub is the best diver ever made.
Well, this is why, the OP post shows why.
Timeless.

Lovely watch...timeless and iconic! (I know that's been said thousands of times before but it´s true!) My 14060 is only 24 years old, a mere youngster! She says hallo

That’s fantastic, something to be proud of! Mine turned 30 this year, a young whippersnapper in comparison and still runs bang on 4 seconds a day fast, always has done. There’s something about old Rolex’s that have stood the test of a lifetime!

Man, this is an awesome post.

Mine is 18 years old. A baby compared to yours. But I totally agree, through all these years, I'm as in love with it as the first day.

Thanks for sharing OP. Wishing many more years.

As far as I know they’ve always been 40mm. Even now, besides the maxi case creating an optical illusion of a larger watch, they’re still the same size dial and bezel.
