Anyone else a maxi case convert?
For the longest time, I couldn't get on board with the 6-digit maxi cases. I thought the lugs were too thick and the crown guards were too large. But that opinion was based mainly on pictures, and the handful of times I tried on maxi cases at an AD. Because of that outlook, my first two Rolex watches were the 14060M and 16710 (which are absolutely great).
But that all changed about 3-4 weeks ago when I picked up a BLNR. Despite the maxi case, I couldn't resist the beautiful bezel and figured if I couldn't get used to the maxi case, the BLNR would be easy to sell. Now that I've had a few weeks of wrist time with the maxi case, it doesn't bother me one bit and I actually really like it. The difference in lug thickness between the cases seems much larger in pictures than it does in real life. Anyone else here start out opposed to the maxi cases and now your opinion has changed? |

I had the opposite experience. Love the modern Subs but after getting a 14060M as well I can say I love both 5 and 6 digit references.

ive always liked the maxi case, but then again im relatively new to Rolex compared to a lot of members around here, so have never known any different.
i agree with what you say about pictures though, some watches ive seen in the flesh for the first time can look totally different to the pictures id seen previously.

I love it. I do think the watches look better on the wrist than off...

Nope... hated the maxi-case when it was first released, and hate them just as much today.

I like maxi case!
I think it’s less conservative and have very good proportion! |

I wore a five digit Sub for over a decade, and I was shocked when I first saw the new SubCs. The watch looked alien, and fat lugs definitely threw me off. The ceramic bezel and improved bracelet were too hard to ignore though. Having owned the SubC for a few years now, I’m perfectly fine with the new case, lugs and all. The lugs are so much more pronounced in photos, and I don’t even notice anymore once on the wrist.

I like the maxi case. I also like the 5-digit case. I think I can make a case for both cases
Now my ideal sub is the 16610lv. It’s kind of the best of both worlds! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm a convert. I loved my 14060m, but once I got my 114060, it just didn't compare. The blockier case just looks more like a rugged, masculine watch, true to the original design, and the glidelock clasp bracelet is simply awesome.

Depends. I don't mind the size just the proportions. I prefer the blnr lugs to the sub lugs.

I loved my 16610 but after I got my 116610 I'm converted.

Been a huge fan of the redesigned case/lugs on GMT and Sub since day one.. Bought a 116710LN (Z serial) in the summer of 2007 and still love it today. 11 years and counting..

I LOVE the super case and maxi dial on my Sub C. So much so that I subsequently obtained a 16570 Explorer II that I just could not grow to love as much so I ended up flipping it because it just seemed a little too dainty/flimsy/small. I also think that the bracelet on the super case models helps with comfortability and wearability. All in all, I do not think I would ever be truly satisfied wearing a pre-super case sport model rolex. (This is just one guy’s opinion. Don’t chastise me!)

Yes, although I am not clear on the source of the nomenclature; i.e., is it official Rolex terminology, or something an enthusiast came up with that stuck?
Regarding the topic, I'm not a convert, since I always liked the super-case, maxi-dial combo. |

I'm okay with the larger crown guards, but the thicker lugs just don't quite look right to me. The watch is more successful in person than in pictures, but I'd like them to be slimmed down. That written, I much prefer the new bracelets, clasps, and ceramic bezels on the maxi case watches, so I'm willing to live with the slightly blocky case.

Well, that's what worked for me. I love my 116600 but couldn't take the 114060 as it felt awkward when I wore it. I really like having a date on watches I wear in most situations!!! The SD has symmetry and functions that I really like!!!

Liked them from day one. I am good with 4, 5 or 6 as all have their place in a collection. The quality of today’s Rolex hard to beat.

I can’t love bad design, so no. I trust the square cases will be history before long

Yes on the BLNR case, it does grow on you after a bit and starts to feel proportionate and appropriate. But no on the PCLs! Hate them with a passion, and have to restrain myself from pulling out a Cape Cod just about every day and wait for the first RSC service down the road.

I was a convert when my 5 digit Sub felt a bit small in my collection of larger watches over the last 10 years. The 6 digit Subs solved that for me magically without being larger but with a combination of new case, bezel, bracelet and clasp being more solidly built. It really took all 4 of those redesigns to pull off such a dramatic difference from its predecessor.
