Too many Datejusts, why oh why??
This is something I have never understood about Rolex - why such an obvious oversupply of Datejusts and a deliberate undersupply of many other models? Why not cut the supply of Datejusts as well?

The oversupply probably has something to do with this, right?

How do you know? Do you have the sales figures from Rolex and from individual AD?

The Datejust is akin to the Benz E-Class or BMW 5-Series. It's Rolex's biggest seller

Datejusts have the highest demand. They have the basics which people expect in a watch (date and time) as well as an eye catching appearance. No more really need be said. So change your tastes to collecting DJs and instantly there is no more shortage of Rolexes.

Rolex is a global company and I would assume the sale of DJ's world wide are reflective of the numbers Rolex makes the AD purchase.

I have visited numerous Rolex ADs all over the world and there are ALWAYS plenty of DJs, but rarely never subs, daytonas etc.
If DJs have the highest demand and there is oversupply because of that, then what explains the undersupply of for example subs? Surely Rolex could cramp up the production volumes of those as well, if they can do that for DJs. |

I think a re-adjustment is coming, esp for men's DJs and the sportier models. This forum and social media are more representing what is really happening with sales now, and more to the point, the rate of sales.

I agree. Coupled with the short supply in general, it makes me wonder what we are looking at for the future. Curious times.

Regular drop in buyers (some) don't even know what the sport line looks like or even exists. Dj is all they know.

Totally agree, ADs i see always have plenty of DJs, yet not even a handful of sports models. Lower the production on DJs and raise it for the professional models.

I always see Datejusts on women (of all ages) and men 60+, but most guys under 50 these days I see seem to prefer Subs and GMTs. Whenever I'm in high traffic Rolex dealers, the men (all of whom are usually under 50) are looking at (or, these days, asking about) the Professional watches, not the Datejusts. I really do wonder if the Datejust is still the best seller for men today.

If this is true then I think only because this is the main model a woman would buy so men/women combined sales.
I see more sports on men's wrists in London. Wish Rolex and AD's would stop with this BS about restricting SS sports and just make more available to the average Joe. You would think they are in the business to make money but guess protecting the allure of the brand is more important. |

My last holliday watch spotting at Disney resorts have shown the DJ is the most common Rolex walking about. I love the DJ and it holds the same clout in my eyes as the professional sport models do. That fluted bezel sparkles by the pool bar like a star and is undeniable Rolex from 20 feet away. I was rocking a LVc and never saw one the entire time so......I guess my watch would be very unpopular by the take away.

I have literally complimented people on their djs on vacation and showed them my sub. At least two said that wasn't a Rolex. On one trip alone. Another time i was getting a drink and casually said "nice submariner" Guy followed with a comment like "it's a Rolex" in a snooty way so you can see how clueless people can be. Some people will just walk in and buy the first watch that looks nice and that's all they know... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

People stumble into the store and look at the Rolex case immediately because it's the BEST... They don't even know it doesn't take a battery, what COSC is or any of that. 3/10 buy whatever the SA tells them looks good. Case is full of DJ and they are shiny and look the part. I'll take it!! The rest either leave from sticker shock, buy a TAG because it's cheaper, or come back when it's REALLY time to buy it. |

I have been told on numerous occassions that my Sub is a cool Invicta. Which is fine by me....but one looked further and said it couldn't be a Rolex as it was too drab to be real.....no shiny ring around the "face" and whatnot...also fine by me! |
