A Golden Era

The GMT has always been a special watch to me. One of the dearest has always been the Gilt/Gloss 1675 with small pointer hand.
Available untill circa 1966 or so the Gilt dial combined with the acryllic crystal has such a warm classy look.
Such a shame so many of these great dials were lost to servicing over the years.
This one, recently regulated, is -1 sec. a day. Like most I prefer a watch to be a tad fast if anything, but after 40 years the "old man" has earned the right to be fashionably late. LOL!

I appreciate the classic look of the 1675, Mike, but I do prefer the quick set time feature of the 16710.

LOL! What a great lead in Ed for chapter two!

The 16750....

Introduced circa 1979-1980 the 16750 was the first GMT to introduce a true quick-set date feature.
Known as the "transitional" GMT the 16750 featured the new fast beat 3075 movement. Made for only a few years. The first models came with a matt dial before Rolex switched to the gloss WG surround dial.
Interestingly, the 16750 retained the acryllic crystal while it's diving cousin the 16800 was equiped with the sapphire version.
With it's thin case, some would say it's one of the most comfortable GMTs to wear.
Whether with the traditional Red/Blue insert or the Black, (both correct) the 16750 raised the bar for GMTs.
It wasn't untill the advent of the 16700 that the GMT found a sapphire crystal.
Early 16750 matt,

Latter Gloss WG surround,

I gotta go with this one, Mike:

Maybe it's the WG surrounds, maybe the stark white markers, or the gloss black dial, maybe the larger arrow on the 24 hour hand. Or maybe it's just the right combination of all those elements coming together in one perfect union.

Great pics as always, Mike. Your pictures are very clear and oh so perfect!!

As much as I admire your vintage models, I'd still prefer my markers with the WG surrounds. But I must say your vintage pieces are in pristine condition!! Well done, pal.

I love the vintage GMT's Mike. I'd take the two with the non-surround matt dial anyday

Fantastic pix and history lesson Mike.

I am a lover of the GMT, both because it suits my line of work and cuz its a damn nice watch.
I am changing time zones all the time, and to just set up my GMT II in a matter of seconds, makes life a little easier.

The 1675 is sure a nice timepiece.
