Insomnia

Anyone else suffer from it? Any suggestions?

I can remember struggling to sleep in my teens and now at 48 I’m still struggling. I’ve been on sleeping tablets (zopyclone) on and off for 12 years. I’ll go a few days to a couple of weeks a time without one at the most. Recently been ill and after a couple of days in hospital followed by a few weeks off work I’m taking them every night.

Never get to sleep before 1am and awake from 6am, 7am if I don’t get to sleep until 2 or 3.

It’s nearly 1am now and I’m wide awake. I can live with it, but it’s extremely frustrating and I’m sure it must affect my health. Rant over :banghead

Me too..
Although if I'm up very early even if I don't have to be, I fall sleep pretty easily. My days start at 11am mostly but the travel screws all that up a lot and a 36 hour day is not uncommon during travel or even back home lately. And a shower at airport lounge makes a huge difference for airplane working cause cant really sleep on the plane unless I have a drink and a zanex

Do you drink?

It’s bad for me when I do. I fall asleep easy. But I’m up at 2. Till 5.

When I don’t drink I sleep like a baby.

I’ve had trouble falling asleep for years. Once I fall asleep I’m out and sleep well. It’s like I can’t shut my brain off. I’ve taken Ambien on and off years. Xanax doesn’t help me sleep. Insomnia sucks.

Yep. Can’t fall asleep until 2or 3 and wake up between 6 and 7 am.

When I was 25 that was fine. At 45, not good.

Need to look for solutions. Caffeine never bothered me. Thinking I need to quit it, at least after say, lunch. Looking for anything that is not a prescription. But if that is what it takes I am getting pretty desperate.

My assistant takes a prescription med that is a very low dose of a med that is generally prescribed (at much higher doses) for bi-polar. Have to ask her what it is again.

Try 10 mg of melatonin. It’s wonderful for me.

This may be my first route Seth. You just get this at Walgreens??

Wife takes CBD oil and says it is supposed to help for sleeping as well.

I had (have?) a weight problem. I lost 50 lbs. on a diet program. My breathing improved, my snoring decreased (thus improving my marriage) and my sleep improved substantially.

I don’t know if others with a sleeping problem have a weight problem, but if you knock off some weight, you can improve two problems. I know it’s not easy.

Yes. Any pharmacy type place.

I prefer the type that dissolves on the tongue.

It’s great for me.

Just found the Puritans Pride on Amazon. 240 of the 10mg capsules for $14. Saw the quick dissolves, in strawberry. May try those too.

Same age here. More or less same problem. I use this "Puritan's Pride Melatonin 10 Mg (120 Capsules)". When I'm about to go to sleep I take one, watch Tv in my bedroom for about ten minutes and then bye bye baby see you tomorrow.

I use melatonin as well when I’m bouncing around the globe across time zones. Helps me go to sleep. Doctor told me melatonin helps you go to sleep but may not keep you asleep. If you wake up and cannot go back to sleep you may have to resort to prescription meds. There are many available, including some that are supposed to be non habit forming. Definitely seek help, not resting well wreaks havoc on a person’s overall health and wellbeing.

I used to have more problems with it than I do now. I think I changed a lot of bad habits I got into and I seem to be able to clear my head more at night. I've worked at night for years (thank God those days are behind me...knock on wood).

When I got into a really bad run of it staying up all night really helped. It got me to bed early the next night, I'd sleep through the night and then try to repeat it for a while.

It's about having good habits for me.

Google ways to get out of it, I am sure they will help.

Oh ya, I used to sleep with a white noise app running all night. Did it for about 6 months. It helped a lot.

Good luck.

I have chronic insomnia. It's horrible. It sucks. Tried everything under the sun.

Until...

My GP, advised on some off-label treatment.

I take 5 mg of Lexapro daily. In the AM.

It's a non-therapeutic dose for what it's intended for, but low-and-behold, it actually worked for my insomnia.

I sleep like a baby every night. No matter the level of stress. But it was two-months of acclimation. Not easy.

I may lose one night every two-weeks. It's a blessing.

Before that, I was sleepless for about 5-days a week.

I'm not advising this is your silver bullet. But it worked for me. And I've tried it all.

Hope you get handle of it. Insomnia is very damaging.

Do NOT try sedatives, addictive and bad news. All very bad stuff!! Find a doctor who cares, doesn't write prescriptions for kick-backs.

I've had bouts - 4-5 days here and there, some where I don't sleep for even a minute. It's all in my head, so often an Ativan will work. I've been sleeping very well for over a year now, and I think just knowing I have Ativan is good enough because I haven't had to take one in that period.

I remember David Baddiel used to have chronic insomnia and after trying all sorts of weird and wonderful cures as celebs will do, he said the best thing was just industrial strength sleeping pills. If I wake up too early, which is my problem, I often take a whisky/sherry mix to just send me off again for the last couple of hours.

This.

Take CBD oil and avoid any sleeping pill or aids. I've been using it for the past 5 months and I'm so happy about the results. The only drawback is sometimes,or I should say most of the times the very, very intense dreams

I think CBD is a good solution for insomnia. Along with a healthy diet and physical activity.

Not and endorsement of this company, just a quick google search. httphttps://www.cbdoilsuk.com/

No but we got the best whisky. I too don't drink often, in fact only as a night nurse really as too many carbs, so the less often you drink the more effective it is, but just to send you off.

Sorry to hear this. Same boat, chronic insomnia for years. Tried most alternative medicine approaches. I eat good and workout daily so that is not the problem. I generally sleep good, but just for a limited amount of time. Usually wake up between 2-4 AM most days and it really does not matter what time I go to bed. If I make it past 3AM I am pretty happy...

Melatonin did not work for me, had the opposite effect. Actually worked like a stimulant on me. Cannot do Bezo's or other sleeping pills as I cannot tolerate the side effects and addiction potential.

Heard good things about CDB and THC for sleep. I cannot use those as I work in behavioral Health and they are still a no go for most employment policies.

Exercise is the best solution IMO. Also lighting can be a factor too. In the winter I use a light a work to trick my brain...LOL

Stay off your phone, laptop, iPad, or any other blue light device for 1 hour before bed time.

This is an excellent suggestion, also meditate for 30 minutes before getting into bed and buy a noise machine to drown out background noise or quietness.

Good luck, I had insomnia for years and finally beat it but it took work and effort.
