The same could be said everywhere, so all we have to go on are the actual stats. In Italy it’s closer to 11%.

You do know that the top medical people say as soon as we understand how many people have actually had this virus with antibody testing that the death rate is going to be well below 1% right? I just want to make sure everybody understands that. When we start throwing the 4% number around that is absolutely catastrophic. 1.8% it’s not much better.

Also part of the problem.

Endless misinformation out there. Hard to know exactly what to believe.

Fair point Seth Trying to sight a reliable source here and certainly not to fear monger or push any agenda, but rather to inform.

It says 525 yesterday in the US 3,516 globally. Sorry if I am missing something. This source tends to be comprehensive, data driven and unbiased.

Thank you, but I’m no hero. Based on my personal communications with emergency medicine and EMS colleagues, I’m very anxious about possibly going back to help. Imagine things getting bad enough that they want a dain-bramaged ER doc helping. But I’m not sure I could close my eyes at night and think that I refused to assist during this time. I hope it doesn’t come to that.

I became a physician in 1982. I’m not saying the Coronavirus pandemic is the worst thing we’ve ever seen. I’m just saying that it’s the worst infectious disease outbreak I personally have seen or heard of. The fact that EMS, fire, police and hospital workers are getting sick, that some of them are dying trying to help others bothers me greatly.

In a time of social isolation, I’ve reached out to friends on TRF, personal friends in my hometown, family, colleagues and even strangers who have contacted me on social media. I didn’t think it was so unusual. Steve, believe whatever you want about the world situation.

I can tell you this Joey. As soon as this is all over I’m gonna find a couple of doctors and nurses and buy them dinner at Ruth’s Chris steak House.

All the hotspots are in this zone...there are clearly a lot more cities in there that won’t consistently warm up for another 8weeks or so. Watchout.

New Orleans and Florida would organically be in better shape, but the influx of tourists for Mardi Gras and Spring Break screwed it up. But it’s getting hot in Florida so let’s see what happens.

Not seeing wildfire spread in Mexico and Latin America...yet, so maybe the heat is helping interfere with transmission?

Mother nature’s coming summer fever in the norther hemisphere might be what it takes to put this down for long enough for us to prepare for wave 2.
Fleeord always insightful comments

Very true that the UV can kill off the virus under some conditions and humidity makes the aerosols drop from the air quicker from being heavier than in dry air.
I think Southern California too has been much lower than initially expected, so I’m hopeful the Summer can at least help us prepare and buy some time for Fall.

That is a spectacular idea! And I’m going to find a way to thank the rest of the people who have proven to be essential to our ability to wait this out.

That’s an important reminder.

Trash collectors, law enforcement, utility provides, truckers and definitely can’t forget the heroes at the supermarkets.

They are crushing it. All of them.

So grateful.

Math. Bell curve. I keep a daily spreadsheet and from 5pm CST March 27 to 5pm CST March 28, about 450 died in the US from Covid-19. One week earlier, it was 55 deaths in 24 hours. Two weeks earlier it was 7.

In humanitarian terms, I sympathize with the passengers. But I shuddered when cruise lines offered massive discounts and people kept going. And I have to ask, what were these people thinking, and what were the cruise lines thinking when they carried on as business as usual?

Stay safe.
Absolutely. The passengers were thinking we can’t lose money on this vacation we already paid for and/or can’t pass up this discount. And the cruise lines were thinking we need all the revenue we can get before we’re forced to shutdown. Pretty sad all around.

I just got off the phone with my parents and their best friends who vacation in Florida every year just returned from vacation two weeks ago.

One of them had tested positive for the virus on Friday and is now at St Mary’s hospital here in the intensive care unit.

I’m sorry to hear brother.

Best wishes.

I’m fearful these types of posts are going to be common going forward.

This will effect all of us somehow.

It’s truly, now more than ever, a time for compassion. Regardless of ones opinions

You and I view this issue from opposite ends but I have really appreciated your analysis and the respectful way you have presented your opinions.

I hope that we can all soon participate in that celebratory steak dinner.

In an interview this morning Dr. Fauci said he would guess (based on the modeling) that there would be between 100,000-200,000 deaths in the US from Covid-19 and millions of cases. He stated there was a wide range in the modeling and that it would probably land somewhere in the middle and that seemed to be where he came up with these numbers.

But he added “I don't want to be held to that” because the pandemic is “such a moving target.”

Encouraging based on last weeks predictions of nearly 2,000,000.
