U Serial and Tritium
I know a U serial is not considered vintage, but I thought the knowledge here would be comprehensive on the subject.
I am in the market for a Tritium dialed 14060 or possibly a 16600 and have noticed some U serial watches have Tritium, and some do not. I have read that Rolex used Tritium until '98. With U being produced '97 and '98 ......... ) Mid-year change in '98 ? ) Service dial replacements on some U serials ? Thanks in advance ! |

Rolex never did anything by serial number and there was always more than one letter prefix release in production at a time.
So, there is always carryover with any change between letter prefixes that were concurrently in production. Also, Rolex didn't start with Tritium exactly on Jan 1, 1998, it's just a convenient way to research the various changes and not absolute.
