Feelings on the 16800??
I have a chance to get one of these 16800..With the later 16610 looking dial, which has beautifully aged plots and matching hands..The dial itself looks like its slightly matted too..One or two niggles though..The cyclops doesn t magnify date as good as my 16610 (maybe aftermarket crystal?) and tool slip marks on case back..No docs with it either.. But i just love the creamy coloured markers..
Near future desirable classic?? (You don't see as many of these compared to the 16610)..Or stay with the 16610 model..Difference in quality of steel used, yes? Anyway your thoughts, and will post pic when I can |

Gold surround 16800's are, essentially, 16610's with a 3035 movement; it's visually impossible to tell the difference.
They are both already "desirable classics".

I used to own a 16800 and a 16610 and the date magnification was lower on the 16800. I've seen quite a few 16800s like that, so it may well be an OEM crystal.

Love the 16800s. Vintage charm with a modern twist. I have both a Matt dial and a spider dial. Love them to pieces. I have an extra box set for the 16800 too if you need.

Great watches, but I wouldn't (personally) chose one over a 16610 unless it was an early matte-dial example. If you come across a seller who is trying to extract a premium for a 16800 that doesn't have a matte dial, I would keep looking. YMMV. |

Its already been said, but if it isn't a matte 16800 I'd just look at 16610s.

Go with the 16800 if wgs. Cheaper and will have more charm in the end. Otherwise I would find a Matt dial as prices for those are jumping as folks get priced out of the 5513z

If you decide Matt dial....get an early One as they tend to fade to a yellowish brown or mustard with time. Very cool dial!

@Tri-National-Man
The only collectible WGS 16800s are the ones which have hour plots that have turned, going from creamy white to creamy yellow-orange. These aren't common and a premium is paid for these. As already mentioned, the early matte 16800s are becoming sought after and prices are edging up quickly. Show us the one you're considering for purchase. _________ Instagram: @onthedial |

My 16800
Here it is..Still unsure whether original crystal or not, but lovely gloss-turned matte dial and creamy plots, matching hand set and nice hardly polished/refinished case and original band/clasp and insert with caramel coloured pip..
What are your thoughts people? |

Very nice example! And that lovely patina will presumably continue to get even creamier. (Super nit-pick: Looks as if the tritium is starting to crack on the seconds hand.)
What's the asking price? |

Based on these 4 pics, this looks like a solid candidate for purchase, if the price is right. As swish77 pointed out, the macro shot of the second hand does reveal some minor separation/cracking. ________ Instagram: @onthedial |

I decided to buy it..Really fell for the patina and the matte looking dial..Looks and feels really different to a 16610..Purchased for approximately $4560..Not cheap but okay, here in UK..

Very nice example and the price is right on for a clean non matte plot dial example.

Picked one up today, original hands and insert, original matte dial, '83. Matte dials w/o marker surrounds are definitely creeping up in price.
