My First Patek Philippe

Hello everyone,

I find myself coveting my first Patek and have become completely enamored by the sublime finishing on both the 5711 and 5980 in rose. Its really a dilemma because while I love the bronzed dial 5711 for its simplicity and poise, the elegance of it feels less versatile. The chrono is balanced, has a great complication and feels sportier and therefore more of a daily wearer. The challenge for me is the black dial that feels a little more common and I suppose the $30k usd price delta.

Am I reading this fairly? This will be my first all gold watch as I've decided that I don't need two AP Chrono, already have a sporty rolex bruiser, and PAM 196 daylight on strap. Plus Tudor ranger on NATO leather strap.

And then of course there's the awesome 5990 which is certainly an everyday watch.

Thanks a million, I really appreciate the feedback...and apologies for the long post!

Justin

See what Basel holds for 5990 (may see RG come out) or grab current.

Yes, a 5990 all rose would be amazing!! Seem I have options :) 5990 available in two months from an AD, 5711 May from a Salon and 5980 now in stock if I want it in a VAT country.. Hmmm. I'm inclined to do the 5990 now and order the 5711 for May and see what Basel holds...

I've heard "one and done" before Dave. Not a chance!. Like the rest of us you have a Watch problem.
Beautiful piece by the way. It looks great on your wrist.

While the 5980/1r is fantastic, I'd trade it for a 5990/1r in a heartbeat. Just waiting now...

You could get a 5711 1R and a SS 5980.

Well that's Neil's fault I must admit it is stunning, but I feel if I was to get a full gold watch the Jumbo might be it, but that's probably because it has a blue dial, I am a total sucker for blue dials, of the watches I have and the ones coming in the next months, on 6 pieces I will have 4 blue dials, but the 5711-1R is clearly a real beauty, though on looks alone I prefer the 5980-1R.
About the 5990 it's really not my cup of tea, really don't like the dial layout, but that's personal, in any case all are nice watches, and yes get the 5711 or a 5712, a SS blue dial Nautilus is a must in my book

Not really, it's Thomas' own, he first got me into this colour combo on a Rolex a couple of years ago.

So a couple weeks ago I found my 5711/1R in Hong Kong. Its sublime :) But I sweat a well starched shirt will scratch it!

In my search for this or a 5990, I have located a second 5711/1R from a dealer. If anyone is interested, I was thinking to pick it up and put it in a safe...

On deck, hopefully the 5990 :)

Congrats, let's see some pics. I've been careful with mine and after 1.5 years it only has two small marks on the bezel.

It was a great experience and my gf really enjoyed the whole process. As we traveled Asia she watched me call every store in the UK and other VAT back locations.. Then we arrived in Hong Kong and visited each store.. Finally, after a couple days deliberation vs. a 5980 at $68k USD I pulled the trigger and we went back. That night we took a chopper to Macau as a "thank you for your patience, while I obsess" present. Cheaper than one for her :)

Congratulations.

The 5711R looks great on you, and it's always fun to buy from an AD especially if the experience is enjoyable for the SO as well.
