5513 Advise

Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to vintage Rolex and looking for advice.
I'm looking to buy a 5513 matte dial, to be honest I'm not too bothered about age or particular dial but a 1970 watch would be good (birth year) but I'd consider anything if it was the right watch.
My question is if a watch has the correct case, movement and dial for a particular year but the bracelet was a later year or service replacement is it best avoided? The reason I ask is because a lot of the watches I've seen within my budget (£7000-8000) seem to have had their bracelets replaced at some point. Am I being a bit fussy or is it an acceptable compromise???

Totally acceptable compromise. Many wearers prefer a new, and sturdier, 93150 bracelet over the old riveted bracelets anyway. So, no, it's not a big deal for most.

Thanks, sort of what I was thinking, just trying to learn what's acceptable and what's not!

Hey Jamwok... honestly, in my view it's all acceptable, whatever makes you feel good and ignore anyone who tells you otherwise. It's only a question of value/rarity or personal enjoyment for being period correct but stick it on a neon pink latex nato if it floats your boat :)

Ha ha, cheers! The vintage Rolex thing is a bit of a mine field compared to buying a current model, so I don't want to get caught out spending what to me is a lot of money on a botched up "bitsa" watch!
....but yeah neon could be the way to go....! ;)

Buy from a member here or HQ, is my recommendation. The peace of mind I have when buying from someone like Jacek or active forum member here (thanks for that lovely 1018, Thom!) is worth paying more. And frankly I don't think you do pay more anyway.

I bought my 5513 from Jacek on the understanding it was service everything but all correct, and yes it's been through the wars a bit but the price was right and you can't really find an ugly serviced 5513. Mine is no perfect gilt but it's still great. My advice to you is to contact the various dealers and ask, they'll put you on the list at least.

Buy it. Wear it. Enjoy!

My '67 MMF 5513 also says "hi" in encouragement.

@Jamwok
It's always preferable to have an all original vintage watch or outside of that, all period correct elements. That said, a 93150 bracelet is perfectly acceptable and to my mind is more comfortable/easier to wear.
Good luck with your future purchase and be sure to show us your prize.

Unless you are buying a complete and original full set, then no it's not that important. Dial and case are the important parts and then handset.

Thanks for the replies and pictures guys!
I think I've got a watch on the way, a 1978 5513 with a serif dial, I got it from a very knowledgeable and reputable collector, it's all original except it has had a service bezel insert at some point, but I can cope with that, but case bracelet dial and hands all match up.
As soon as I get it I'll post some pictures. .....can't wait!!!!

i've had the orignal bracelet and the now 93150 with 580 endlinks on my 5513 and as its for wearing the latter combo looks quality and feels better.

the 580 endlinks look as if they were made with the watch - no gaps, exactly the same curvature of the case etc...

Collected my 5513 today, it's a beauty!! It also has a 93150 bracelet on 580 end links and dates to the case - 1978. ...I'm over the moon with it!!
Unfortunately I can't seem to upload any pics off my iPad on to the forum, no idea why it won't do it??

I recently started getting into vintage, I like to have the original or period correct bracelet but i always wear them on a 93150. Just feels much better to me and still looks great
