First Patek purchase coming up
I intend to buy a 5119j this weekend. It will be a new watch from an AD. I don't want to shell out that kind of money for a well tried on watch. Should it be wrapped and unworn?
I do not want a strap where the holes are worn. |

This being your first Patek, I can see why you would want it unworn.
I would call your AD and ask if they have one sealed in the back. If they don't, you can either have them order one and wait a few months or purchase the one they have in the display case. Either way, congratulations on your new watch! |

I think the chance it is going to look worn is low. So even if they do not have a sealed one in the back-- go check it out in person before making a decision.

One major advantage to the hobnail bezel is that it doesn't show the type of hairline scratches sometimes seen with well worn demos. I would look it over closely, but if it's new from an AD chances are it will be pristine.
Doubt that the strap would be an issue but the dealer should willingly replace if you have any qualms. I also wouldn't necesarily expect that the AD would have another one in the back. Unless he's an unusually large AD, I don't think it's common to stock multiples. He could always order one fresh, but be prepared to wait, but I really doubt it would be necesary. Congrats on deciding on such a fine timepiece! |

I hate to "buckle in" the strap of a watch for sale. I do not want to expand the hole. I will often just hold it over my wrist. Good thought about changing the strap, but I'm sure it will be fine.

I'd call ahead and see if they have one sealed still. Otherwise, I'd wait until until they get one shipped in.

To me it makes no difference if a watch is worn or not at the ad. If the strap is worn excessively to your liking just get a new strap. I mean, I don't buy my watches to have them sit in the safe. I wear my time pieces. It's not a huge deal to me.
