6536.1 advice

My father gave me his air king to service which he picked up second hand about 20 odd year ago. So I service the watch getting running well then when I go to see if I can find a serial number, I could find anything inbetween the lugs so check the case back off and notice it's ref number is 6536.1 and IV.1958 stamped in.

please correct me if I'm wrong but from what I can see the 6536.1 was submariner?

Also it has a 1560 cal movement in it, having another search on this one it has been found in watches dated as early as 1959 so could it be at all possible that the movement and case are of the same age? But the dial, hand, bezel and crown have been replaced?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Any things possible, 6536/1 is an early no crown guard sub. Should have a 1030 movement if memory serves, the 1520 base came in the 5508's later.
Sounds like a put together watch of various parts.
The 6536/1 dial is hard to come by and you would need movement, bezel, insert, hands etc.
Post some scans of the case and model numbers for better evaluation.

Yeah to be honest I thinks it's more of a I hope or wish as I never find anything special. I hope these photos show enough.

The caseback is worth as much as the watch. My suggestion would be seek a matching case back to your watch and make some cash!

Found a very light serial number on the case of 259358 which dates it to what 1957 - 1958?

Does the opposite side of the case between the lugs have a faint model number stamped in it? It would be exciting if the case matched the case back.

Case does not look like a 6536/1, more like an early 6202 case. Do look carefully for the model number. But as RWT said that case back is worth as much as the rest. Once we find the case model I'm sure proper case back will be easier to find and you can fund that with $ left for rest. m

Currently I'm having trouble finding any ref numbers of the case so looks like illl be selling off the case back on its own as someone may be able to put it to good use.

The only possible number I can make out is a 3 but it could easily be an 8 or 5 or even just a scratch.

1003 1008 1005 are all 34 mm time only references.

If it isn't a 5500 then it is likely one of those.

Have you tried to make out the reference number between the lugs using a loupe?

It would be great to know what exactly you have so you can get the right back.

A 1500 1503 1501 will also fit it I am fairly sure.

But you would still have the wrong back. The air king is more likely to be a 5500

I'm just not sure what the reference is with the gold fluted bezel.

Looks like it is a 5501. That would be what you have if all that you have is the way it is supposed to be.

And there is this...even in your neck of the woods.
