Replace or keep a damaged link
New here and this is my first post, so thanks in advance everyone!
I purchased a Tudor BB58 earlier this year. Unfortunately, I fell down and did a scratched two of the links really badly (see photo). I'm thinking of keeping them as a way to remind myself to be more careful and not be overly obsessed with keeping it in perfect shape. Part of me wants to replace those links with two extra links that were taken out when I purchased it (both so seeing it does not bother me and for longer term value....assuming having links age at the same rate would be better vs swapping them out years from now only to have them stand out from the others because they're so new). Any thoughts on the pros/cons? Thanks in advance! |

Hi and welcome to TRF. Too bad that happened. It looks pretty bad to me so I would replace them and throw them in the box. It’s a no brainer if you already have the extra links. .

I'd probably just replace them, but if you're unsure of what you want to do why not wait a while before doing anything.

Concur with TTalk. You're not sure what to do, so why rush? As long as the bracelet is structurally sound, leave it as-is for a while and then make the switch to the undamaged links later, if your desire to do that increases.

Not worth overthinking, you have the spare removable links, just swap them out.
Its like having a badly damaged wheel on your car and not using the spare otherwise (without the safety aspect obviously). Just buy a couple of replacement links if it bothers you. |

I was going to post “how bad can it be”, but man, you really did a number on those links.
I’d keep em as is but I’m just hardheaded. BTW, did you “fall down” from a moving motorcycle?

Is the last link on the right part of the clasp? If so you’re out of luck on that one but I agree with the above suggestions to replace that the middle and left links since you got them anyways

Depends, if you think of the watch as your everyday beater that accompanies you on every adventure and you expect it will pick up scratches and dents then it can be quite liberating and enjoyable. This is the way I always imagined my sports watches to be worn. I don’t deliberately mistreat them but things happen from time to time. This is one of the great advantages of the new Tudor pieces. Rolex has become a bit too expensive and hard to get for that now so Tudor has now inherited the role performed by them 20 years ago. I would just leave it and ask for them to be replaced at service time. Too many people treating these watches like fine dress pieces just because they cost a few thousand $s.

I would just wear it as is and not worry about future damages as long as the bracelet is functional. You may find it becomes your favorite timepiece since you will wear it without worry.

I replaced it
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I had it swapped out and very happy I did so. You're all right...I don't need to see it everyday to remember the moment and I still have a minor scratches on the clasp that will remind me to be more careful :)

Definately the best idea the spare links would lie in the box forever otherwise and they were made at exactly the same time so no worry about batch difference appearance.
Glad you changed them. |

I would probably replace them if I had the spares.
However, I would take the damaged links out into the shop and spend some time with a file and some refinishing tools and make them look as best I could. Nothing wrong with having some refinished spares around.
