Date or no date submariner

My AD has just sent me a txt saying that’s my name in for the new Sub date.
I did ask for the no date.
Thinking about it I don’t know whether to leave it as is or correct her.
What’s people’s opinions on one versus the other?

Sounds like you are just on a list with no watch in the store for you. I would just ask to be in on the no date list. What harm from that. Worst case is you buy the watch you do not want or refuse it.

Can you live with the date? If not, tell her and wait for the one you want. I prefer a date, so I would be over the moon as I am on the waitlist for the Sub Date.

I’d skip the date if given a choice. Useless to me and takes away beauty from the watch. But you might not get a call for a no date....

I prefer the No Date. More balanced dial, cleaner. However I would just wait and see what they offer you. Let your SA know you're also interested in the No Date and see which comes first. Beggars can't be choosers

Good luck

Get what you want.

I like a date function and I particularly like the Rolex cyclops. But you're not buying it for me.

There is no downside to either a Sub, or a Sub Date.

Pass, get what you want. But just to be sure, go check it out in person, but don't give in to any pressure.

Always the date for me - useful, I like the cyclops, and if you decide to move the watch on in the future you will find it more popular with buyers.

What else do you have? I have the sub and bluesy, I always say if just one I would get the sub date, but that is tough because the sub is favorite. Thread needs pics.

I'd always get what you truly want otherwise you'll always have that gnawing feeling

Years ago I always swore by having the date complication, but on the Submariner I made an exception.

I have my own feelings as someone that dives. In the purist sense a Sub doesn't have a date. Now that being said - I do have a 5 digit sub date as well. For some reason I prefer the cyclops on the five digit.

I have date and no date and I tend to use the no date more. The dial is more balanced and less noticeable to others. The cyclops screams Rolex every time I wear it and people notice it.

There are 1,000 threads here on this - it’s your preference. Neither is right or wrong.

I prefer the date

The dial of the classic sub is a stunner.. I was also between date and no date version, I chose to go with the classic no date version and seriously couldnt be happier, I just stare randomly at the watch during the day!

Always get a date. In today's day and age you cant tell me you wont have an occasion to look down at your watch to check the date. It adds to the functionality of the watch and makes it more versatile. Yes, yes, the classic did not have a date. The purpose of a watch is to be functional and useful-having the date adds to that.

Rant aside to be sure, I would clarify with the AD, as its unlikely they would add "sub date" to a text and not just say sub. Thats not likely an accident, but if you like surprises, take what comes and it adds to the story of the watch.

No date. Can’t argue with perfection.

Just kidding, they’re both perfect. I happen to love the Sub without the date, but you should just get the one that you like the most.
