Icon3 Fixing a Cyclops

Ok, so I have the UV Glue, two cyclops (just in case), rubbing alcohol and a Tudor Heritage Chrono. All I need is a sunny day, which should be tomorrow (or a UV lamp), and a steady hand, right?

Any tips from our fine team of experts would be much appreciated, as this is my first time.

Thank you very much.

Adam.

Complete faith in you Adam.

Mask it off and line it up and you'll be fine

Tricky I would think...you'll have to mask it off so the glue doesn't bleed when you press the cyclops down...I've never tried it but have worked with epoxy on my boat and am familiar with the mess the darn glue can create if one is overly liberal...I would think you'd need just the perfect amount to provide for an even layer of glue so as not to impact the optical affect of the cyclops once installed...

Thanks Joe. I have an old clunker to practice on, too. Will get to it later today.

Adam, use the UV lamp. I had that exact watch, and installed a Cyclops to it. Do not worry about the glue around the Cyclops, only will "harden" under the Cyclops with UV light, and the absence of air:)

Thanks Kevin, that looks great. How much time will I have to set the Cyclops straight before the glue hardens? Quite a while if it's not under UV?

It would not activate without UV light, so this affords you time to be certain of the position of the Cyclops ....this is why I would use a UV lamp, and not use Sun light

Great, thanks. All I need now is a time equi-distant between my last coffee and my first drink. Steady hands required!

Ok, job done. That was easier than I expected. Somehow I managed to do it without getting excess glue on the crystal (I think) and it's straight. I used a slightly smaller Cyclops than I have seen on other THCs that have had this modification. Now I just have to hope that it stays on. Gave it a nudge with a toothpick just now and its stayed put.

Here's a few macro pics in case anyone need a reference in future.

Very nice, looks good Adam. Nothing like a cyclops to complete the heritage.

Thanks guys. Not sure I'd be so lucky next time. The x10 loupe came in handy, too.

Well done, Adam!

The cyclops is a great addition to these chronos.

Thanks Dan. Your pioneering mod was the inspiration, of course. Now I'm wondering about Rolex crown and pushers. I wonder if that's possible.

Sure, which is half of why I did it. If the original versions hadn't had it, I wouldn't have done it though. It's a good combo of practical and aesthetic, IMO.

Thank you. It might also be worth mentioning, if anyone else plans to try this, that I set the date to '8' to give me a more symmetrical background to work with, to get a straighter fitting.

That's a great tip about setting the date to 8 and something maybe some people wouldn't think about.

It looks just perfect. Vary clean job !!

I thought about installing one of those to my SeaDweller… I know, heresy.
But then I realised that I would STILL need my glasses on to be able to read it, so why even bother...
