what did I just buy? 6263 knockoff?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/380465955314...84.m1497.l2649

been admiring this watch for a while. this one needs a lot of work but i never see these available and jumped on it. hopefully it wont cost me too much to get into good shape but i have a feeling i will love this poorman's 6263!

That appears to be a Japanese Domestic Market model that is sought after by the Speedy folk more often than not.

It's pretty beat up and rust on movement is never a good sign.

If I was you I would send it directly to Omega in Bienne for a refurbish cost estimate and take it from there.

That's a nice grab if you can get it functioning again.

Obviously needs an overhaul, but it's a great looking watch! I'd say at that price you did fine.

My 1967 Speedmaster Pro was serviced in Bienne and they did a superb job. It is well worth the trouble if the watch means anything to you.
I am sure though, that if you just want a routine service, you can find it stateside.

Good luck on a very beautiful watch.

Its a piggyback chronograph, so typically as much or slightly more than a Speedy Pro depending how many parts need changing, it could add up heavily. In the photo with the dial and movement out, you can see the rust on the chronograph module, that is definitely going in the bin, the rest of the movement looks pretty bad as well and even the dial has water damage at the six oclock subdial.

Bracelet is also incomplete and the case has had a lot of scrapes on 7 oclock to 4 oclock region, it really does need one of everything, and I think if you go through Omega $1k may be very optimistic.

I remember hearing recommendations for Nesbits watch service (www.nesbitswatchservice.com) in Seattle, Wash. The were supposed to specialize in Omegas. You might try them if you want to stay stateside,

That movement is gonna be über expensive to fix. Usually a replacement is what is recommended. Either way it's gonna be expensive and I think it's worth fixing.

Send an email to Al at http://www.archerwatches.ca/service.html and ask him what he thinks.

He does a lot of top notch Speedy work and is priced right.

Fine looking watch, but the movement looks a bit worrying.

Yep, the servicing costs on that modular chronograph are a big turn off for me. Good luck in getting it fixed at a reasonable price, OP

Al actually recommended I send it to Omega. He said he didnt have the equipment necessary to fix a 3220. It seems like Nesbitt's might be able to fix it. I'm also considering taking it to Howard Frum in Chicago as I've heard stories about people who have gotten repairs/restorations down by him on watches which were deemed unrepairable by other watchmakers. Regardless, it seems like this will be a costly repair, unfortunately.

You should check out Daniel Watch Repair in the South Loop. I've been taking my Rolex to him for years. I know he's certified to repair Rolex, and am pretty sure he's certified for Omega, but I'm not certain. You can find him at 5 South Wabash (I think on the 11th floor). His number is 312.372.2997.

i think i may send the watch to nesbits in seattle. i dont want to send it to bienne bc ive heard it can take many many months.

my only issue with nesbits is whether they can repair the slight discoloration in the 6o'clock subdial.

if anyone has a suggestion, id love to hear them....

That is a good idea.

Try Nesbit first then Bienne if necessary.

That piece if one of no more than 300 if I recall correctly, so it will be well worth it to have it restored to working order no matter how long the wait.

You should check Daniel out, seriously. He's actually in the same building as Howard Frum, just on a different floor (I believe Howard is on 8). He can take a look at it while you wait and tell you if he can service it or not. When he services my Rolex he typically gets it back to me in about a week or so.

I wouldn't recommend messing with the dial. never seems like dial repairs ever work out the way you want.

im going to leave the dial alone. i got the watch in the mail yesterday and the dial is in far better shape than the pictures led me to believe. you cant even notice the discoloration unless looking at it 2in away. the case is dinged up and needs a refinish but overall, the watch isnt in as bad of shape as i thought. of course, i havent looked at the movement, and that is where the real cost will lie.

If this was a watch that I truly loved and was not going to resell/flip/get rid of, then I think the cost would be worth getting it working again.
