1675 pepsi general condition question

Hi guys,

I'd like some opinions on this 1675 IV from 1968. It's from my favorite dealer. I like it , but what to think about the scratches on the bezel? I think it is in an honest condition considering it's age. But 16950 us dollar. Is it justified? Seems expensive. No box no paper

While for almost the same price i can have this from phillip at exotic watches. http://www.exoticwatches.net/all-wat...mkiv-gmt-1675/

Thx

I'd go for this one, love the case, look very well defined and sharp for a watch of that age, the one at exotic watches looks like a refurbished case which for me is a big minus. Box and papers don't light my candle either!!

Bezel inserts can be very personal. Some like faded inserts, some prefer brighter more colorful inserts, some prefer inserts when the red has changed to a pink, orange or fuchsia color and some even prefer scratched-up inserts with all their original battle scars. Inserts can be changed very easily and should be taken into consideration when making a purchase.

Thank you Springer for your sound advice, very welcome.

However, do you mean: should NOT be taken into account? Because they can be changed easily?

Id go for this one. Refinished cases don't work for me with an aged insert, looks out of place... Also, i just like an earlier example...

If you're not comfortable with the price, then don't do it. Personally I think the price is a little high, but not much and if the piece is singing to you and you know/trust the dealer maybe there is a deal to be made...

In answer to your captioned question, no, I meant "taken into account" when placing a value on the watch since they are easily changed.

If a watch has a "ratty" insert, I wouldn't place much value on the insert. Ratty being excessively scratched, dinged-up or missing pieces or bits of the aluminum insert that has corroded away.

If I am buying a 1675 priced at $15,000 which I value at $15,000 with a decent insert and it has a $200 service insert or a 50-cent ratty insert, I would make an offer accordingly. If I'm buying a nice GMT for $15,000 and it has a decent insert but I do not care for the fade found on the insert and it is one that I could sell and shop for one I liked, then I wouldn't worry too much about the current insert.

Decent inserts are around $1500 and nice ones are are $2,000 on up.

Ok Springer, I understand it completely now. I agree with you completely. That being said, I must admit that I do love the inlay on the watch I posted. I just want to make sure that it's not "stupid" to buy it in that condition. I think that in the end it's ok , but must be priced accordingly. I'm pretty sure that the seller isnt going to drop the price a lot. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in the end I let the heart speak (within reasonable limits). I never have been a business man. But you helped me a lot.

Thanks for the aswers guys!
