Black is usually my best but I'll have to do the white on this one, The White is cooler here!

I prefer the black 116520 and the white in the 500. Talked to a dealer and was nearly convinced to buy the white as "the time is easier to read." Ended up going with the black and have no regrets. Go with what you like!

I think legibility about the same. The black looks a little bit bigger.

I had the white DaytonaC almost two years before getting the black. Although at first I didnt like the black as much, i grudgingly admit now that I like the black better. I believe the choice, however, depends on your other watches. If you only have one watch, get the black. If you have other watches, would assume there are black dials there, so would get the white for the variety.

White. Sets it apart. Almost all other types are black.

I had that 116520 in black so this time around I got the White 116500. I wish I can get a black one in the near future as well.

Very interesting thread. No right or wrong choice, obviously.
I cannot decide between the two, but I know that I want one!! |

Two years ago, I was invited to the Rolex launch at my AD, which had the Basel released watches on display. These were all prototypes - no movement - but other than that, they were the legitimate pieces.
I recall trying on both watches on the day, and I thought I'd like the black more. BUT, as I stare at these photos, I think the white looks better on my wrist. I would welcome your opinions... Side note: does anyone else think the Black Cosmo looks a little like a Tag Heur Carrera?! Or is it just me? |

I’d say the one you want is the one to get. Neither is better it’s all preference and very black and white.

I would LOVE to buy one of these watches, been hunting now for nearly three years, and cannot find one for love nor money, unless I choose to pay DOUBLE the RRP.
No thanks. If any of you folks happen to know of a reputable AD that has one of these bad boys, please please please share the wealth in exchange for a bottle of fine single malt. |

I find the black faced Daytonas very difficult to read. I went with the white face which is much more legible.

I own a 116520 white and a 116500 black.
Both look fantastic. A 116520 black looks bland to me and a 116500 white disturbs me a lot with the black bezel. Of course this is personal But this explains my choices. Go for a 116520 White if you want to priviledge a classy/smart look (with a sporty watch). Go for a 116500 Black if you want to priviledge a sporty look |

IMO it's pretty simple; both are incredible. white is a little more sporty with a little more pop. black is a little more refined, obviously sporty too, but a little dressier. So for me it comes down to what else you have. White is best in a bigger collection. Black is more versatile IMO, and better in a collection of 1-2 total pieces. |

White vs. black dials on the stainless Daytona and Explorer II have been debated since the Internet began. In that time we've seen plenty of people choose one and end up with the other. I suspect a lot of white get flipped because people buy them and either don't like the dial in person or find it looks too small on their wrist. But, that's just a guess. |

I've been pondering about the bezel size, that the watch would probably look bigger if the ceramic bezel was just a very tiny tiny bit narrower to allow more dial face. The proportions would be better too, it looks like vintage Daytonas have a higher face to bezel ratio?
